Loneliness
Loneliness and Solitude
As Baby Boomers edge into their golden years, many find themselves experiencing more alone time than they’ve been accustomed to. This new phase can initially feel unsettling, but it doesn’t have to stay that way.
In fact, solitude can be an empowering and liberating experience, opening doors to self-discovery and personal Growth. Learning how to appreciate and utilize this alone time constructively can dramatically enhance the quality of life for Baby Boomers as well as other generations like Generation X and Generation Z.
Loneliness is a universal human emotion, complex and unique in its experience to each individual. It is characterized by a deep sense of isolation and disconnection from others, impacting mental and physical health. Understanding loneliness is crucial for fostering better personal Relationships and community bonds as our experts in this area of the site explore. Emotional loneliness arises when one misses the close emotional attachment of a significant other, like a best friend or a partner. Social loneliness, on the other hand, is felt when one lacks a broader social network. Often, loneliness is less about the actual absence of others and more about the perceived quality of one’s relationships. It is possible to feel lonely in a crowd if the connections with others are not meaningful.
Loneliness as we grow older is caused many times by the loss of family and friends. One effective way to combat loneliness is to deepen existing relationships through quality time and meaningful interactions.

I viewed about 15 minutes of each of the infamous debates. I don't take them too seriously because as we know, the way politicians get elected is not to tell us what they intend to do, but to tell us what they think we want to hear. So a political campaign gives us lots of shouting and negative ads -- "He's a dictator!" "She's a liar!" "He's a racist!" "She's stupid!" -- but we don't get any serious discussion about important issues. So we read the tea leaves of invective and negative ads, and try to figure out what they really mean to do, and place our bet in the for…

The Awesome Experience Awe experiences expand our personal boundaries and shift our attention away from ourselves. Awe makes us feel like we are something greater and helps us understand the perceived magnitude of our lives and surroundings. Awesome experiences can trigger a mix of vastness and admiration, leading to a unique blend of joy and respect. This emotional response is deeply rooted in our biological appreciation for what is considered extraordinary or beyond ordinary understanding. The feeling of awe can be triggered by nature, by people and their deeds and by music, just to name a …

To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. From the time I was 12 years old, I knew exactly what I wanted to do in life. What a pity that I was wrong. My ambition was to become a newspaper reporter in the footsteps of role models Mark Twain and Clark Kent. In single-minded pursuit of this goal, I worked on my school newspapers in junior high school, high school, and college. In high school I was a stringer for the local daily, earning the princely sum of 25-cents p…

The gist of the discussions have to do with “what do we do now?” An old title from my archives came to mind. I thought I’d dust it off and share. I hope this thought will be helpful to you as you figure out your “new normal.” Here it is from the vault. We all suffer the daily grind. Some days are better than others. Send us a textAward-winning novelist William R. Douglas joins us on the Patrick Bass Show to explore a chilling vision of America's future in his latest speculative fiction, "The Sum of All of Our Anger: Civil War 2.0." Picture a nation torn apart in 2061, ignited by its first openly socialist president—could our current political tensions really escalate into another civil war? William offers a gripping narrative that not only entertains but also serves as a stark warning about the consequences of deepening ideological divides infiltrating major political parties.
