Multiple Sclerosis MS

Dealing With Multiple Sclerosis MS

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). The exact cause of MS is unknown, but it is believed to be an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the myelin sheath, which is the protective covering around nerve fibers. Our experts in this area of the site talk to many different MS patients and provide insight into how to deal with this disease.

MS symptoms vary widely and many times include fatigue, numbness or tingling, weakness, vision problems, balance and coordination issues, cognitive difficulties and muscle spasms. MS is diagnosed based on a physical exam, medical history and imaging tests such as an MRI scan. There is no cure for MS, but treatments can help manage symptoms and slow the disease progression. These treatments may include medications to suppress the immune system, physical Therapy, occupational therapy and Lifestyle modifications like Exercise and Stress management.
