Shame
Dealing With Shame
Shame is a powerful emotion that can have a profound impact on all aspects of our lives, from our Mental Health to our Relationships with others. Unlike guilt, which relates to our actions, shame is often about how we see ourselves—a deep feeling of inadequacy or unworthiness. Understanding and managing shame is crucial for leading a balanced and fulfilling life. Shame among Baby Boomers may stem from a variety of factors. It could be a result of the changing societal norms, struggles with Technology adaptation, or the feeling of being outpaced by younger generations. Our experts in this area of the site address how to tackle this shame, not only for our mental well-being but also to promote healthy relationships with other generations.
Shame can come from various sources, such as personal failures or societal expectations. When we fail to meet our own or others’ standards, we may feel a profound sense of shame. Emotionally, shame can manifest as feelings of worthlessness or despair. Physically, it might present as a sinking feeling in the stomach or a flushed face. Managing shame is not about denying its existence but about understanding and integrating it into our lives in healthy ways. By acknowledging our feelings and learning from them, we can move toward a more self-compassionate and fulfilling life.
