Understanding Gray Divorce: Financial and Emotional Impacts on Baby Boomers

It’s a harsh and powerful word and not one people generally seek as a personal descriptor.  Yet most of us Boomers, who are now at least 60 years old, have at least peripheral experience with divorce and its powerful financial and emotional impact.

In the US over the past 20 years, divorce rates have fallen, except for those of our generation. Sadly, our Baby Boomer divorce rate has tripled, quite often wreaking havoc with our finances and our Retirement plans.  In fact, our generation spawned a newish term, “gray divorce,” to describe spouses who sever their marriage after age 50.
