Baby Boomers are at the Core of the Retail Revolution

The baby boomer era was marked by a robust post-war Economy fueled by widespread optimism and increased consumer spending. Families saw their incomes rise, leading to a surge in consumerism. This financial stability supported the Growth of suburban areas, which became fertile grounds for the establishment and expansion of retail chains. The advancement in transportation due to the development of the interstate highway system made it easier for retail chains to distribute products efficiently, while looser credit conditions made it easier to shop, and an increase in advertising and marketing innovations made it easier to find products.

Whereas the rise of shopping malls and the rise of retail chains had a cultural impact on the Baby Boomer Generation becoming central to community life and influencing American culture from fashion to consumer behavior, the independent mom and pop retail store did survive and thrive because of Innovation and hard work. Our experts in this section of the site explore how important baby boomer entrepreneurs were and are in shaping how we spend our Money at retail. The Internet is now also so important in our shopping lives leading to the rise of E Commerce, which transformed the retail landscape. Physical stores have had to adapt to this new digital marketplace. The retail landscape was quite exciting as we were growing up, but with E-Commerce today, the Millennials and Generation Z, will have an entirely different retail experience than the Silent Generation and the Baby Boomers.
