Ensuring Safety with Adult Protection Services (APS)
Adult Protection Services (APS) programs across the country support Aging adults and adults with disabilities who experience, or who are at risk of, abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or financial exploitation. APS programs investigate reports of maltreatment; conduct case planning, monitoring and evaluation; and provide, or connect people to, a variety of medical, social service, economic, legal, housing, law enforcement, and other protective, emergency, or support services. Our Experts in this area of the site will explore the need for adult protection services and its increased importance as the Baby Boomer Generation reaches Retirement age. These services act as a safety net, protecting us from potential harm or neglect.
People who experience abuse have higher rates of Depression, hospitalization, and institutionalization — and they are more likely to die prematurely. They also may experience deteriorated FamilyRelationships, diminished autonomy, and being institutionalized as the direct result of maltreatment. So, we all need to make sure our neighbors are aware of APS.

I Love Howard SternI'm a huge fan of Howard Stern and have listened to him for decades. About five years ago, he said something that I didn't hear because I became very inconsistent in listening to him when he became very inconsistent in his schedule. His recent contract will have him broadcasting once a week, which, to me, just says, "Why not just retire?" This is how you lose your audience, though. How to Lose Your AudienceI realized that some people like to talk about politics, and that is your choice, but just realize when you do, you're going to lose about 50% of your audience. This wasn't…

Growing up is hard enough without realizing that some of the people you trust most may not have always told you the truth. At some point in adulthood, many of us come face-to-face with the uncomfortable truth that our parents lied to us. Whether it was about the Tooth Fairy, the reason behind a divorce, or something more personal, the realization can sting. It feels like betrayal, confusion, or even like your childhood was built on falsehoods. But before we let that pain grow into resentment, it’s worth exploring a deeper understanding of why parents lie.

Trauma is healed by releasing it. Letting it go. The practice is to let go, let go, let go.
This is what I mean by unconditioning yourself. It takes true awareness and daily application. You are regularly, habitually extricating yourself from your focus on what was wrong in the past by choosing to focus on something beneficial…or something other than this trauma.
No justification, no empathetic pain. No conscious recollection of painful memories of past events. This isn’t suppression or denial. You won’t forget. It’s not dealing with the shock of beach ball thoughts that pop up u…
