Natural Perspective For A Flu Box: Stocked & Ready

The idea of putting together a flu box was something I read about earlier. However, in the case that I shared in my email, it was with conventional medicines.
While we may call it flu season, here’s a joke that fits in well. (IG video)

Quote of the day: “

Of course, the most ideal scenario would be to not get sick. But the reality is that we are all around enough germs that at some time, our body can’t fight them enough.

Insider tip: I always liken it to a war. You need armies to fight, and many times those armies are busy fighting other battles in your body. That’s one reason I share so much wellness and health information in my emails.

But instead of stocking up on over-the-counter meds filled with artificial ingredients and chemicals, what if we took a more natural approach? Enter the Flu Box: your curated collection of natural remedies and tonics that can help boost your immunity and ease symptoms if the flu decides to pay a visit.

Keeping Your Flu Box Stocked
My Flu Box Is Actually A Bag…Whatever Works.

What is a Flu Box?

A Flu Box is essentially a wellness kit that you have on hand before flu season hits. Instead of scrambling to the store for last-minute relief when you’re already feeling under the weather, the idea is to be prepared with everything you need at home.

Insider tip: I always say it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

In your Flu Box, you’ll have a carefully selected range of natural remedies that not only help fight off flu symptoms but also strengthen your immune system to prevent sickness in the first place.

Think of it like having a first-aid kit but for flu prevention and relief. And since I prefer natural options (mostly), this box will be full of holistic remedies that rely on nature’s healing power.

Why Choose Natural Remedies?

Why go the natural route when it comes to flu care? For me, it’s about avoiding putting unnecessary chemicals and additives into my body and focusing instead on boosting my body’s own defenses. Many natural remedies work in harmony with your immune system, rather than just masking symptoms. Plus, they often come with the added bonus of minimal side effects and the benefit of nurturing your body with additional nutrients.

Let’s talk about what items have a permanent spot in my flu box. You’ll be glad you have them if you get sick.

Immune Support

1. Immune Support

Since our primary goal is not to get sick in the first place, keeping our immune system in tip-top shape is what is going to make a difference.

There are a couple of items that I alternate and use regularly:
–BeeKeepers Immune: It is sold on their site or on Amazon. More info below.
–WishGarden Immune: It is sold on their site or on Amazon. More info below.
–Echinacea: There are a ton of options for this supplement. Liquids can be better because there tend to be fewer “extra” ingredients in them.

Bee Propolis

If you haven’t tried bee propolis yet, consider this your sign! Bee propolis is like nature’s defense system—bees use it to keep their hives free of bacteria and infections. It’s packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and bioflavonoids, making it a powerhouse for your immune system.
And it’s good for soothing a scratchy throat too.

What I love about Beekeeper’s Naturals products is that they’re clean, natural, and sustainably sourced. You can trust that you’re putting something pure and good into your body, without all the fillers.

Insider tip: This is also good to take with you when you Travel. This is a product that you spray into your mouth. It tastes good and is easy and convenient.

WishGarden Tinctures: Plant Power in a Bottle

WishGarden Herbal Remedies are tinctures packed with blends of herbs, each one designed to support your body’s natural defenses.
If you’re unfamiliar with tinctures, they are concentrated herbal extracts that pack a powerful punch in just a few drops. These plant-based remedies can help relieve symptoms or give your immune system a boost when it needs it most.

What I really like about WishGarden is their commitment to natural ingredients. For instance, in the Kick-Ass Immune bottle, you will find echinacea, yarrow, and elderflower, which is perfect for boosting your immune system as soon as you feel a little under the weather. Either add a few drops into water or take it straight under your tongue.

Insider tip: Comparing tastes, WishGarden is more alcohol-tasting than BeeKeepers, but they are totally different ingredients. It’s not bad tasting, but if you’re picky, you might try to hide the taste in a juice or applesauce.

Flu Tinctures And Remedies The Natural Way

2. Flu Box Essentials

Once the symptoms start and you’re not feeling your best, this is when I resort to a couple of other products.

–Flu-Tone: This is a homeopathic liquid that is sold on many supplement sites or Amazon.
–Influenzinum pellets: You might have seen these if you shop at Sprouts, the brand is sold on iHerb and they are found on Amazon.
–Kick-Ass Sinus: This tincture is amazing for allowing your sinuses to drain. While I used to believe it was better to be stuffed up, you really want those bad bacteria and viruses to get out of your body.

Cough Remedies For My Flu Box

3. The Cough

I don’t know about you, but the cough that comes with a cold and flu can be the worst part. Half the time, you’re starting to feel better but you sound terrible and sleeping is impossible.

This is the time I cheat and will use an OTC cough medicine.

Insider tip: Sleep is truly the most important part of healing from a sickness, so if your cough is keeping you up, then you aren’t healing. That’s why I will resort to chemical cough syrup. Usually, it’s only needed for the first and second night.

–Serious Cough (and Kick-It Cough): These WishGarden tinctures work well, but only last about 5-6 hours for me. That’s why I use it more during the day or towards the end of my bout with the flu when I am not coughing as much/long.
–OTC cough medicine: I try to use this for as few nights as possible because of the grogginess associated with it.

Insider tip: For a totally natural cough syrup, mix honey and lemon together in equal parts, and take a spoonful as needed. Raw honey works best, but again, this only lasts a short time for me.

Cough Drops

Traditional cough drops often come with a side of unnecessary sugars and artificial flavors which in no way help us heal and get better.
In your flu box, you want options that soothe without compromising your health, which is where natural, low-sugar cough drops come into play.

Insider tip: You probably won’t find many without ANY sugar, but make sure it’s at the end of the ingredient list. Part of the problem with sugared cough drops is that you’re bathing your teeth in sugar.

Look for cough drops that contain ingredients like honey, slippery elm, and zinc.

–Ricola: Ricola has been around forever, and for good reason My husband loves the liquid center ones. He says they remind him of a tootsie pop where the specialness is in the middle. These drops release a burst of liquid at the end which is like the cherry on top.
–BeeKeepers: This brand has a couple of different variations that include propolis, but do have tapioca syrup.

Insider tip: Just like with food, it’s important to look at ingredients with supplements and products in your flu box. If you don’t know an ingredient, google it.
Yes, it’s a lot of work, but your health is worth it.

Final Thoughts: Your Natural Flu Box

Creating a flu box filled with these natural remedies is like setting yourself up for success before flu season even hits. From the power of WishGarden tinctures to the soothing relief of bee propolis, each item in this flu box is a step towards feeling better, faster, and without the overload of synthetic chemicals. It’s all about giving your body the support it needs in a natural, balanced way.

This isn’t the first time I’ve shared ideas on staying healthy. We often change the products we take, so it’s good to explore many options.
