Emotions & Healing Episode 2: The Heart of the Fire Element

What happens when the fire within us is bright, balanced, and nourishing—and what happens when it begins to flicker, scatter, or burn too intensely?

In Episode 2 of Emotions & Healing, Dr. Michelle Greenwell is joined by Kate Montgomery, HHP, ND, and Denise Cambiotti, HCD, CIH BioEW, for a thoughtful exploration of the Sovereign Fire Element, the Heart and Small Intestine meridians, and the emotional qualities of joy, Love, passion, connection, and discernment.

Understanding the Sovereign Fire Element

Within the Five Element Theory, Fire is associated with warmth, connection, enthusiasm, communication, and the ability to experience joy. It influences how we relate to ourselves, to other people, to our purpose, and to life itself.

When Fire is balanced, we may feel present, emotionally connected, clear, inspired, and able to share our warmth without becoming depleted. When Fire has too much or too little energy, we may feel scattered, burned out, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or unable to find pleasure in the activities and Relationships that once nourished us.

This conversation invites us to notice where our inner fire feels strong, where it may need tending, and where we may be burning through our energy rather than allowing joy to sustain us.

The Heart: Connection, Rhythm, Memory, and Joy

The Heart is often described as the sovereign of the body. It supports circulation and rhythm while also influencing emotional connection, memory, focus, Sleep, and our sense of meaning.

Through the BioEnergetic Wellness lens, Heart balance is not simply about reducing Stress. It is also about asking whether we are connected to the people, activities, and possibilities that make life meaningful. Are we allowing ourselves to receive joy? Are we sharing our passion in a sustainable way? Are we present enough to recognize what nourishes us?

The Small Intestine: The Wisdom of Discernment

The Small Intestine physically separates what can nourish the body from what needs to be released. Emotionally, it offers a similar lesson in discernment.

What information supports us? What expectations overwhelm us? What belongs to us, and what are we carrying for someone else? When we are emotionally overloaded, it can become difficult to sort truth from fear, nourishment from excess, or meaningful action from constant activity.

As Kate and Denise share throughout this episode, restoring balance can support clearer thinking, healthier boundaries, more efficient movement, and a renewed ability to recognize what truly matters.

Tea with Intentions: Apple Passion

Before beginning this conversation, we pause for a Tea with Intentions ritual. The featured blend is Apple Passion from the Cape Breton Tea Company, selected to support the warmth, connection, and heart-centred qualities of the Fire Element.

The Spiritual Essence of the Herbs

Cinnamon offers the spark of life and courage. Its warming nature invites circulation, presence, and purposeful passion rather than scattered effort.

Cloves symbolize emotional protection, integrity, and inner strength. They remind us that we can remain connected to others without exhausting our own reserves.

Vanilla pieces bring harmony and sweetness to the blend. Vanilla invites us to remember that joy does not need to be earned through overwork or exhaustion. Joy can also be received.

“I embrace the opportunities that I have been given and allow them to bring joy to my life.”

As you prepare your own cup, allow the warmth to settle into your chest, breath, and nervous system. Consider where joy already exists in your life and where you may be ready to welcome more of it.

What You Will Discover in This Episode

During this conversation, Kate, Denise, and Michelle explore how the Fire Element can influence posture, movement, digestion, memory, sleep, relationships, and emotional wellbeing. They discuss what can happen when people have tremendous passion but continually overextend themselves, as well as what may occur when the inner fire becomes depleted and motivation begins to disappear.

You will also hear practical insights about movement, meridian tracing, emotional awareness, and simple Touch for Health tools that can support harmony between the Heart and Small Intestine during emotionally demanding periods.

The goal is not to suppress emotion or force ourselves to feel joyful. It is to understand what the body is communicating and to create the conditions in which balance, connection, and vitality can return.
