How To Wear Metallic Jeans On A Budget

Our Thrifty 6 group is talking about metallics which I’ve seen majorly on the retail scene. Yet it’s not impossible to find these items at the thrift stores. Thus, I wanted to showcase how to wear metallic jeans on a budget.
These are skinny jeans no less, but there is loads of personality in this look.

Quote of the day: “Comparison is the thief of joy when applied broadly, but the teacher of skills when applied narrowly.” James Clear

You might think that women our age shouldn’t even think about how to wear metallic jeans. The phrase I hear many times is that a woman is “trying too hard.”
My thought process has changed considerably since my blogging beginnings, and I have decided that I want to wear things that are fun instead of worrying about looking appropriate. Sometimes, I think that looking appropriate can end up having us looking just like everyone else, which is never my goal.

Sure, there are times that experimentation creates an outfit that isn’t my favorite, but without trying, you never know the possibilities.

So when I talk about how to style metallic jeans, I went all out and included many fun items instead of playing it safe.

There have been other times we have styled different metallics, so make sure to check out these other articles:

Options For Metallic Jeans

Just because my metallic jeans are quite bright, doesn’t mean they are all like this. Some are more subtle and part of it depends on which color of metallic you try. Yet as seen in the widget below, some gold ones are more muted while some are bright.

Insider tip: The advantage of metallic jeans is that they have a coating on them. This coating is like faux leather in that it doesn’t attract pet hair or stains.

The other variant of metallic jeans is the silhouette. There are cropped length or full length as well as wide leg, flared leg, or skinny jeans.
Even though most “fashionistas” declare that skinny jeans are out, there are multiple reasons to keep some in your closet.

Insider tip: If you’re not sure if you can pull off the concept of how to wear metallic jeans, then your best bet is to either try a clothing rental subscription service (30-day free trial with Your Revolving Closet) or go thrifting.

Bold Option of How to Wear Metallic Jeans

Even though the silver jeans are bold by themself, I wanted to incorporate more color into the mix. Additionally, since this is part of our Thrifty 6 group, the jacket of choice was this fuzzy, bright pink one that I snagged off of Poshmark.

Insider tip: Shopping Poshmark can be time consuming and overwhelming. That’s why I came up with some great tips.

I mimicked a column of color under the pink jacket by “matching” the turtleneck to the jeans. Since I didn’t have a true silver turtleneck, I opted for a neutral color along the same lines.
Today, I wore this grey turtleneck, however, even a white top would have created the same concept.

The advantage of a fuzzy jacket like this is I can be wearing many layers under it. Since the jacket is bulky, all other bulkiness is camouflaged.

Insider tip: I’ve been wearing my fleece long underwear daily to keep warm. While it’s fleece-lined, it’s still thin enough not to create much bulkiness.

Accessories & Footwear

I love how the floral combat boots bookend the colorful aspect of the outfit. Not all combat boots have to be black and grungy. There are tons of different styles available.

Insider tip: And if you scoff at the lug sole, think of them as functional for being warmer by creating more space between the cold earth and your foot.

Some of my accessories are thrifted or gifted. My headband was originally my niece’s that she wore in one of her dance performances. And then this pink ring is one that I won from a giveaway hosted by none other than Nancy of this Thrifty 6 group.

You can shop the look through the links in the widgets I place throughout the post. Sale prices are not always reflected in the widget, so click through to get pricing info. And if you like something but want to wait until it goes on sale, make sure to click the heart and it will email you when the price drops. Remember, if you purchase anything through these links I potentially earn a commission, but at no cost to you. Thank you for your ongoing support by shopping through my links.

Another less bright option of how to wear metallic jeans was shown on Sunday of last week’s Daily Outfit post.

And with that, let’s see how the other women are styling metallics on a budget.

Metallics with the Thrifty 6

While the other members of our Thrifty 6 group are not just concentrating on how to wear metallic jeans, they will be showcasing all kinds of options. Hopefully, you will get loads of inspiration from all of us.

With the fashion and textile industry being a major contributor to landfills and other environmental pollution, we decided to make it the mission of this little group to focus on second-hand items. Every month we will choose a theme and share our styles with you to hopefully inspire you to shop more preloved and less fast fashion.

Insider tip: If there aren’t many wonderful secondhand shops near you, then I included a list of online shops that I love at the end of this post.

“The only preloved garment that I have in metallic is the dress I wore for last month’s Winter Wedding prompt so I had to find something else for this challenge. Fortunately, I had recently picked up this gorgeous wrap in teal and gold for $1 at a local thrift store. When I bought this scarf, I had intended to cut it up to add to a rag curtain but it was just too pretty so I kept it to wear instead. I am so glad that I did because I have been wearing it on repeat! My skirt was thrifted years ago and has a tiny bit of shimmering metallic thread going through it. The turtleneck, which has barely visible pinstripes in silver, was in a bag of clothing donated to me for my rag curtain projects. I ended up keeping a few things for myself from that donation! My copper and turquoise earrings were purchased from a booth specializing in preloved jewelry at a local flea market. I gifted them to myself for Christmas this year. My necklace was handmade by my dear friend Michelle, my gold bag (which is actually a wine cooler) was gifted to me many years ago, and everything else I purchased new at some point.”

“The dress is gold and silver and the material is quite hard to wear and does not provide any warmth at all, hey, but it is beautiful. The jacket has copper and gold wire and was actually in my giveaway bag. Until I saw this photo and thought, no, I’ll keep it for a while! The boots are not pre loved but they are gun metal! So this is an Uber metallic outfit!”

Emma of Style Splash

“I bought this vintage 1950’s jacket on eBay ages ago but couldn’t decide how to wear it. When I chose the theme of metallics, I didn’t immediately think of this jacket but it gave me the push to style it. I’ve layered it over a blouse from The Hippie Shake and added a belt I bought in a charity shop. I had a hard time deciding what trousers to wear – not wanting to choose black because that would have been the easy option! So I opted for leopard print instead…it is a neutral after all!”

My Metallic Chameleon…
Metallics is the T6 theme for January, perfect for me, I have it in spades!
I chose this skirt because it’s one the oddest things in my wardrobe, I call it my Chameleon skirt!
You’d be forgiven for thinking it was purple but it’s much more complicated than that…
…it seems to change colour depending on it’s surroundings and the intensity of the light…
…it can appear to be blue, green, black and sometimes even neon pink but it’s always metallic!

Grace of Graceful Rags

“I immediately thought of this velour ombre dress when the metallics theme was announced. It’s silvery and shimmers at the top before melting into a jet black. I paired it with thrifted snakeskin booties and hand-me-down black crystal earrings. Throw on a leather jacket and sheer tights and you’re good to go for a winter date night!”
