How To Style Tank Tops in Winter
Having a versatile wardrobe is always a smart and eco-friendly idea. That’s why we are discussing how to style tank tops in winter.
Even though it’s not as easy to wear our winter items amid summer, there’s absolutely no reason not to use our summer clothing to help with layering in the colder months.
Quote of the day: “You don’t have to be great at something to start, but you have to start to be great at something.” Zig Ziglar
Categorizing our clothing as summer vs winter can be detrimental to our creativity. It also doesn’t help save us Money or be environmentally conscious.
That’s why I told the crew that we were going to figure out how to wear tank tops in winter to inspire you.
I’m constantly thinking about ways that we can wear our clothes year-round if possible. If this is something of interest to you, then you’ll enjoy some of my older articles too.
Lesley: How to Style Tank Tops in Winter for Temperate Days
If you live where the temperatures don’t drop as much as other areas, then the idea of how to style tank tops in winter is easy. Just use it as a layer under a single topper like Lesley did.
In Lesley’s words: “Tank tops are or should be a staple in our closets. Of course, in winter they can’t stand alone so putting a simple or elaborate jacket over one is almost a daily activity. Since I live in Arizona, I chose a lightweight yet fabulous jacket with a skort and pumps. The look is perfect for a dinner date, house party, or walking the streets looking at historic homes (which is what we were doing this day).”
I would like to point out Lesley’s skill in print mixing which was something she wasn’t fond of before she joined us on the blog.
Her jacket already has many different prints which is a wonderful start, and then she added both a leopard purse and necklace to carry the print elsewhere. Bravo!

Charlotte: Wearing Tank Tops Under a Blouse
Charlotte wore her bronze ruffle tank top under another blouse. This works fabulously when the tank top has a beautiful design or feature because you want it to be seen.
Even though it was chilly enough for a faux fur jacket, my mom was bundled up enough with her layers to keep her warm.
Jodie: How to Wear Tank Tops in Winter as a Camisole
One way to think about how to wear tank tops in winter is to use them as camisoles. Camisoles are a great layering item to add warmth or fill in any gaps.
Since this dress can be a tad revealing, I layered my tank top under it and created some fun print mixing.
I needed a cardigan for more warmth and thought this white fuzzy one would be perfect. However, it was too long proportion-wise, so I turned it upside down. This creates a cropped topper.
Here’s one video on how to do this. The other way is to lay it on your bed upside down to put it on. Basically, the hem becomes a shawl collar and the neckline is the bottom hem.
Items worn before: I’ve worn this tank over a turtleneck years ago and the dress styled for winter in the past.
You can see how long the cardigan is when worn the way it was intended with my velvet dress.
Insider trick: This brooch is really a necklace. You can see how I created a “brooch” with it and magnets in this video.
Magnets found on Amazon.
One More Idea
Don’t forget that you can always layer your tank top over other clothing too. Think of it as a sleeveless vest and try it over turtlenecks (like I did here) or even over a long-sleeved top (like my mom did here).
Insider tip: We always get more mileage out of our clothing if we remember that most things can be layered both UNDER and OVER other clothing.
