Colors That Go With Gold And Red For Chinese New Year
Our Magnificent 8 group came up with the prompt of the Year of the Dragon for the Chinese New Year. Since the Chinese New Year is all about the colors red and gold, and I have blogged about it in the past, I decided to add to an older post. Basically, this is using my color recipe for colors that go with gold and red.
Quote of the day: “Happiness often sneaks through a door you don’t know you left open!” Susan J. Decuir
From the original post: This category’s goal was to add in another color with your red and gold excluding black, which is considered bad luck. For the 3 of us on my blog, I made sure that our other colors were different from each other. I added burgundy, Nancy styled it with white, and mom wore her olive green. But the fabulous detail I noticed when I uploaded Sheela’s & Eve’s photos is that they chose other colors without our planning it!
To give even more options of what colors go with gold and red, I added 2 more combinations at the beginning of this article. Then the original photos are below.
While it’s perfectly acceptable to only wear 2 colors together in an outfit, I believe that adding in a third color is a good Exercise for our brains.
Insider tip: The easiest way to add a third color is to make it a neutral one. Blacks, browns, whites, grey, and even denim are the easy neutrals.
As part of the collaboration for the Chinese New Year with Sheela & Eve years ago, we also put together other looks that you may want to check out.
Colors That Go With Gold and Red: Pink
I always believe that different shades of colors pair well with each other. For another example of this, see the outfit below with burgundy.
Heck, Valentine’s Day is all about pink and red, so I think these colors are a fabulous combination.
I wore a pink faux fur vest over a chunky hand-knit sweater (knit by my mother over 25 years ago) along with my gold, jacquard jeans. These lace-up, red boots felt right for the fun look. And I added a huge bling pin to the vest for decoration.
Can you Pair Orange with Red & Gold?
I will admit that I tend to be bold in my color combinations. But go big or go home, right?
This color pairing came together when I thought about the color wheel. Since gold can be used to describe yellow, I figured all of the warm colors would look wonderful together.
The leopard booties mimic the gold lace of the duster and I added a white multi-strand necklace.
Red, Gold & Burgundy
I decided to play upon Rena’s (Fine, Whatever) theme from a while back and pair my red and gold with burgundy!! I was struck by her story that this was her dad’s favorite color combination, yet the women in the household didn’t always approve!
So what do you say to this color combo? I have to admit that I love this outfit. Of course, I’m sure the long, gold cardigan adds a break from the red & burgundy!
The snakeskin boots are one of those purchases that I’m so happy about in retrospect. They were bought at It’s a Wrap which is a store in California that sells second-hand props and wardrobe items from movie and television shows! The boots still weren’t exactly cheap, and I wasn’t sure they were appropriate. But boy, have I worn and loved them ever since!
I tried to keep the accessories relatively simple with a matching necklace & earring set that my husband gave me at the beginning of our relationship. My purse may not really match this outfit, but I was looking to add in some fun & whimsy?
White with Red & Gold
Nancy’s extra color with our theme is white! And don’t you just love how it pops the red? Sure, maybe I’m biased after our post about white jeans? But I really love them any time of year and think they look awesome with every color!
Nancy wore this outfit to a lunch date with a friend at Cafe Terra Cotta in downtown, Littleton. Even though the shirt is a sparkly gold, I think the sweatshirt cardigan acts as a casual element to make it realistic.
I suggested that Nancy wear her beige ballet flats. Since they have faux pearls adorning them, she then chose her pearl necklace & earrings for her accessories!
I really liked how this outfit turned out. This blouse is one I usually think of Nancy wearing for special occasions only. In fact, Nancy wore it in our holiday party post, here. But isn’t this a great way to take a dressy blouse from your closet and make it more every day?
Colors that go with Gold & Red-Olive Green
When I was considering Mom’s outfit for this look, I wanted her to wear this red & gold floral jacket! I think I bought this jacket for her over 20 years ago when Spiegel was up and running. The sleeves of this jacket are more of an olive green, so that decided mom’s other color for this post!
Since we still have snow around (and will for a couple more months), I had Mom wear a pair of tan boots to keep warm. I think they fit in with the color scheme nicely and don’t detract from the print jacket.
For mom’s accessories, we had to add in more gold, right? The earrings and collar necklace are a bright gold, but the owl ring is more of an antiqued gold. Do you know my mother has 7 owl rings in her jewelry drawer? I counted!!
This olive green dress is one that my mom made many years ago. She wore it for our olive green series here, here (you can see it in its full glory in this one) & here.
Another Neutral with Red & Gold-Grey
Sheela went with a matte grey jersey jumpsuit for her extra color to the red and gold! It works perfectly with her red jacket (a tribute to David Bowie!)
Denim as Colors that go with Gold & Red
Eve’s color is denim. I would consider that very apropos for the younger generation since every girl has denim jeans!
