The simplest acts of kindness often begin with making space for someone else, both on a bench and in our hearts.
–Maya Angelou
Five years ago, a simple Zoom gathering was born, a virtual space amidst a world plunged into uncertainty. Our Friendship Bench, conceived in the early days of the pandemic, was a humble invitation: an hour each week to connect, share, and support, free from agendas and sales pitches. Little did we know the profound impact this simple idea would have.
What began as a virtual refuge quickly blossomed into a vibrant community, a testament to the human need for genuine connection. We learned that true community isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the vulnerability, Wisdom, and kinship shared on that virtual bench.
The magic of Our Friendship Bench lies in its simplicity. It’s a space where borders dissolve, where judgment is replaced with empathy, and where inspiration thrives.
As we celebrate this magical milestone on April 3rd, we acknowledge the power of human connection, especially in challenging times. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has taken a seat on Our Bench over the past 5 years, as well as our gracious Hosts; Melissa Hughes, Mac Bogert, Paul Haury, Phil Williams, Mark O’Brien and previously, Toni McClellan and Mike Vacanti.
In a world craving hope and recovery, Our Friendship Bench stands as a beacon of light, a testament to the enduring power of human connection. It’s a reminder that even in isolation, we are never truly alone.
Our Bench awaits, ready to welcome you into a community built on trust, empathy, and unconditional belonging. So, grab a seat, and experience the magic for yourself.
