Advice for my younger self 🥳
When I was younger, I knew it all! I always knew better than my dad, my grandfather, and my grandmother. I definitely knew more than my stepmother! I was so wise, 😂.
When my dad expressed his distrust of my bad-news boyfriends, I was upset and defensive. When he suggested I was moving too fast into a relationship, I was mad as hell.
As I grew older I realized a lot of what my dad warned me about was absolutely true. Fortunately, I’m still able to tell him I’m so sorry for being such a nitwit in my youth. 🫣
For that reason, I try (that is the keyword, TRY) to be careful when dispensing advice to my own kids.
I know not so deep down that they need to learn things firsthand and through their own experiences, even when it pains me to see them suffer. I’m their mom and, for that reason, to them, I’m clueless.
If I could go back in time and give my younger self advice I would keep my mouth shut to avoid my own former self’s wrath. 😩
Fortunately, the older I get, the less I know and the more open I am to experiences and points of view. I hear that’s not the norm, but I’ve never adhered to norms anyway. 🙃
I think this is what I love the most about turning 61 soon – I am way more chill about life and about myself. Thank goodness!
What would you say to your younger self? Or to yourself now?
