Virtual assistants and emergency contacts
Virtual
assistants can be set up to call 911 or other emergency contacts. However, it’s
important to note that virtual assistants may not be as reliable as traditional
emergency response systems, as they may not be able to accurately locate the
user or may experience connectivity issues.
Here’s
how to set up emergency contacts on some popular virtual assistants:
1.
Amazon
Alexa: To set up an emergency contact on Alexa, the senior can say “Alexa,
set up a medical emergency contact” or “Alexa, set up a contact for
911.” Alexa will then prompt the senior to provide the contact’s name and
phone number. When the senior says “Alexa, call for help,” Alexa will
call the designated emergency contact.
2.
Apple
Siri: To set up an emergency contact on Siri, the senior can say “Hey
Siri, call emergency services” or “Hey Siri, call [contact name]
emergency.” Siri will then prompt the senior to confirm the call before
dialling.
3.
Google
Assistant: To set up an emergency contact on Google Assistant, the senior can
say “Hey Google, call 911” or “Hey Google, call [contact name]
emergency.” Google Assistant will then prompt the senior to confirm the
call before dialling.
It’s
important to note that setting up emergency contacts on virtual assistants does
not replace traditional emergency response systems, and seniors should still
have access to a phone or medical alert device in case of an emergency.
