The 24 Lookback Lessons of 2024
A lookback feels unwanted in so many ways, bookended by healing and unraveling of my health again. Feeling so strong midyear to have it wiped out by a medical issue is not how you expected 2024 to end.
At yearend you look backwards and forwards. Your look forward in December of 2023 was about the rise of my perfect year, the angel numbers matching my birth date, the year you were healed from my multi-pronged gynecological surgery. In August, more health news came to you, solved in October and fixed in December.
December was a surprise, and not in a good way. Losing a bone(s) and a long form book proposal and book was a lesson in detachment.
June, July and August were focused on everyone else. The sun is a recipe for self love in small moments.
September, October and November reminded you of living in NorCal, dry heat allowing so much outside happiness helped prepare for December’s dip.
January, February and March months uplifted your body and mind. Early 2024 feels like years, not months ago.
All year, work was a very slow burn, some things are very hard, others are so easy. You love ease after years of carrying a boulder uphill.
The spring was happiness in health and Relationships. Yoga, reading, racquets and mini trips held your heart when my spine and abs felt like they might never stop being noticed.
Your expectations for 2024 were high and they fell short for long periods with a respite of Caribbean and Atlantic seas throughout the year.
In many instances you’ve done things before my peers. Early decision in college, a Director title, Caregiving an ill mom with a toddler and a newborn. Now, a set of surgeries no one has had yet or heard of. You’re used to being different but it was harder this year than others.
My personal clarity lessons from 2024 to me from me.
1 – Your health is everything. It impacts your relationships, your mentality and workload. Even with all the self care, reality sets in and you have to pause to take care of it. The healing is long and necessary.
2 – Mandatory rest is difficult in some ways, but it is simple in others. It cuts through the extra cr c@p and keeps things much clearer. You are great at resting, meditating, using your days efficiently. Your best friends are walking, working out, and getting to doctor appointments or recovery appointments. People kept telling you to rest. It’s a projection of their non-rest. I lived many years without rest. Do not let others’ inability to chill impact your love of downtime.
3- Many people fear quiet, you love it. The quiet means more Clarity. Many people are afraid to be with their thoughts and hearts but you thrive unfolding the necessary layers of walls built up over time. Book another night away, keep up the work.
4- Your kids are so smart and intuitive, lift them up more. Keep talking to them about all of the hard things. There is never a good time to talk about conflicts, Grief, success or inner critic and their bodies or mean girls or family dynamics. THIS is breaking the cycle.
5- Leaning on others who show up is worth it. Community feels necessary but it is not always the people you think it will be
6- You think you should hire your friends, but you should NOT. Liking someone and hiring them to help you are two very different things.
7- Chasing boys in high school was never part of your story so chasing clients or business or friends isn’t yours today either. This might mean a new way of working in 2025.
8- You like to make friends in all corners and when it is aligned the love boomerangs back. Long distance friendships are as real as your local friends.
9- The quick and fierce release of terribly toxic unaware mean women has been one of the healthiest things you’ve ever done. Trying to get the bad people to love me is not worth my energy.
10- You’ve had a lot of surgeries, complicated, long and rare surgeries. Each time people show up differently. Accepting the help is necessary in life and letting go of expectations of those who cannot help you is difficult, too.
11- Things shift, it might feel like a tsunami but it’s just the tide. You can tell the difference.
12- The moon is your guide and you’ve been ignoring her this year. Returning to the basic waxing and waning will help you move from physical pain to clarity each month.
13- Stop listening to people who are not as smart or versed in your specialization as you. Hard stop.
14- Supporting your nervous system is the way forward to reduce cortisol levels and move your framework back to a level where your brain fog is reduced. Advocating for eastern and western experts helps you feel the strongest.
15- Your house energy is the energy that helps or hurts the most. Find daily (or hourly) peace in your four walls.
16- You know your body and the system so well. You are shocked at how many women have no idea about their bodies and ignore so much. Your research helps others in real time.
17- Being unattached to outcomes is something you’ve seen others do and now you notice the benefits of releasing all of it.
18- Brains are your favorite organ, compliment others on their brilliance.
19- Like you coach your 1.1 clients, joining a board or Volunteering is something that has been missing from your past life. Investigate this more and more.
20 – Organizing big programs or little events is your superpower. Do it with different expectations.
21 – Learning new things is uplifting. Not everyone understands this about you but your brain needs this to function. Keep your research and investigating up.
22 – Laughing happened on the fringes and it’s not enough. Your mission is to laugh your ass off in 2025.
23 – Much of what got you through the end of 2023 AND 2024 is a collection of your big time work and life. Stop shrinking to meet people at their level. If they choose, they can level up.
24 – You are you. The authentic code is a blueprint you dove into which is a step beyond values. GO FOR IT
