Revisited Opinions With A Rental Fashion Service After 6 Months
After using Your Revolving Closet for 6 months now, I wanted to give my opinions (some good, some not so good) about this rental fashion service.
I talked about it after I’d been using it for one month, and I shared how I came to use it, the reasons it could be beneficial as well as how to work the system to your advantage.
Quote of the day: “Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.” Henry David Thoreau
My true goal with joining this rental fashion service was to curtail my shopping addiction and hopefully introduce some variety of clothing to those who read my blog.
Get your 30-day free trial just by going to the site and signing up. Even before signing up, you can check out all the clothes available.
You can take advantage of the service for under 30 days and then cancel and you won’t owe a thing. Your credit card is still required at sign-up in case you want to buy something or for people who don’t send their items back.
Has it been successful? Yes and no.
While I’ve shared most of the logistics in my previous article, I wanted to share more of my experiences and encourage you to try it out.
Need help?: “Help” is my middle name. If you want to give it a go but feel unsure, please reach out to me and I’ll give you all the help you need. My email is Jtouchofstyle@gmail.com
The Process
I’ve had questions about this rental fashion service, and here are some specifics.
- When Your Revolving Closet box is on the way, you get an email, and when you go to your account (the “hanger), you can see what will be in the box (and how much an item would be if you decide to purchase it).
- The box is delivered to your door. They have been professionally cleaned (see the specifics in my original article if this concerns you), folded, and ready to wear. Occasionally I have steamed them before wearing them.
- When you get your box, try things on ASAP because you want to go to your online “closet” and return them right away (or maybe purchase) so they can get your next box processed.
You don’t have to send them back YET…it’s just a step to get the company working on your next box right away. That means you can have 2 boxes at home at the same time. - After wearing the items you like, just fold them into the included return plastic bag. Drop this off at the post office, easy peasy.
Insider tip: If you have 2 boxes at home, you can return ANY 2 items (not just the 2 that came in the first box). This means you could potentially keep an item for the entire time if you want to keep wearing it.
How to Shop
You may think it’s silly to talk about how to shop. You all have been shopping for clothes for decades. But with a clothing rental fashion service, it’s a different concept.
It’s NOT a commitment. You are not picking out things that you are going to buy (most likely), so they don’t have to hit all of your buy points.
For instance, maybe you aren’t sure about the style or color, but for your rental experience, put it in your closet anyways.
Why?
Because you might be surprised. And if you don’t like it, it’s no biggie. You just send it back and try more items.
Insider tip: The best idea is to put things you wouldn’t normally wear in your closet for Your Revolving Closet. This is the one H.U.G.E. way that you can step outside of your comfort zone and grow.
Also, you want to put a LOT (and I mean over 50 things) in your closet. So as soon as you sign up, start shopping.
The more items you have in your closet, the faster the company can get your next box out to you, which means the more clothes you get to try for the month.
Insider tip: Some items are only available in certain sizes and only the colors shown are for rent. Don’t get discouraged if you click on an item, and it’s not available in your suggested size.
Check back the next week, and it might be.
Love Thrifting?
When and only when your next box is in the mail, you get notified which items are coming and the price in case you’d like to purchase an item.
Some of the clothing is a great deal, and basically you’re shopping at home. You get to try on the pieces and see how they really feel throughout the day.
It’s almost like at-home online thrifting which is oxymoronic, right?
Insider tip: Do you worry about sustainability? If so, renting clothes can be a cog in that wheel. You are sharing clothes with others instead of buying and purging.
Good and Bad About Rental Fashion Service
Pros:
- They figure out your size. Once you sign up and tell them your size in other brands, they suggest a size for the item you add to your closet. They are more than often correct in these suggestions.
- You might find a new favorite brand. For me it’s Express.
- There are no worries about this type of shopping. When you are picking out clothes, you don’t have to spend time thinking if it’s the right shape for you, or worry about the material or even the size. Because…
- If it doesn’t fit, or you don’t like it once it arrives, it’s easy to send back.
- Wearing an item all day gives you much more information in case you want to purchase it. Who hasn’t bought something and had it be annoying half way through the day?
- You can wear it and not have to find room in your closet for it.
- No washing, drying, folding and putting it away.
- You can request an item to be in your next box. It costs $5 extra but could be helpful for certain events. They call this service “Dart”. It’s optional and I’ve never tried it.
- Maternity tab–this is not just for the younger girls
Insider tip: Are you apple shaped? Have you gained weight in your midsection after Menopause? You SHOULD check out the maternity clothes. No one is going to know that they are maternity, and they might fit fabulously.
Cons:
- There are no specific “Petites”. Because of this I only add midi or shorter skirts and dresses to my closet. I also only ask for cropped pants/jeans.
- Plus sizes aren’t available for all brands. Some have XL, and some (like Leota) go up to 3X.
- You can’t make alterations if an item doesn’t fit perfectly.
- Those clear straps that are used to hang clothing from, you can’t cut them out–because it’s not yours *unless you buy it.
- Sometimes there is damage to a clothing item. If you find something, email them to have them take it out of rotation. Luckily, you didn’t buy it so it’s not a huge issue.
Conclusion
The question is, has this rental fashion service curtailed my shopping habits? Definitely yes!! I have only purchased one of the items from Your Revolving Closet (the rust polka dot skirt below). I’ve loved many items but because I’m trying not to add clothes to my already full closet, I’ve restrained myself. I haven’t been shopping either in stores or online because I know I have new things coming every week.
Insider tip: One reason I purchased that polka dot skirt? Because I could turn it upside down and wear it as a top. Don’t believe me? I showcased it in a video…it’s how to style it #2 version.
Have I tried styles that I wouldn’t normally wear? Yes although I’m VERY open to doing that normally. I would call Your Revolving Closet’s styles very modern and fun.
Will you try it? I hope so. I don’t make any commission from the free trial period, so that’s not the reason I hope you sign up.
My goal is like the quote at the top. Trying new things has been a very freeing experience for me and I think it can benefit us all.
It’s also the way you steer clear of being frumpy.
You should definitely sign up for the emails below. Besides the free eBook, my email family gets personal tidbits of what’s going on in my life along with other happenings, sales, information, giveaways, extra photos, and interesting articles.
