Spring is the time of year when most of us want to refresh our wardrobe. If you peruse the internet and fashion magazines, then you know that the big thing is the “Spring Trends.” While I always love the spring trends each year, I am trying to embrace the trend of “underconsumption” and how to work with what I already have.
That’s why I wanted to share 5 spring wardrobe essentials that you probably already have or figure out how you can use what is in your closet.
Insider tip: Don’t worry, I will also list the trends I’ve been seeing in my social media feeds.
Quote of the day: “If you’re not sure where you’re going, you’ll probably end up somewhere else.” Peter Laurence
I have been analyzing and figuring out the items and relevance for spring wardrobe-essentials. We all realize that the weather can be bipolar at this time and yet we still want to look great.
And with some fabulous weather that we have been having in Arizona, it puts us in that spring mindset. For some of you, these ideas could be waylaid for another month, but I tried to figure out how it fits in with what you already have.
Style Insider: I’m grabbing things to show you that I already own. Sure, I will link to products in case you feel the urge to purchase, but I’ll also be sharing some ideas if you don’t want to buy something new.
As much as I love my site, Jodie’s Touch of Style, I really enjoy putting together my daily emails. I consider my emails an extension of my blog chocked full of positive inspiration that one friend calls a “Variety Show.”
I include articles, videos, and posts that strike my fancy and since I have no siblings to share with, I share with you.
Insider info: If daily emails are too much, you can opt into just getting them on Saturday. I appreciate any support.
After a long winter of being stuffed into thick socks and heavy boots, our feet deserve a little pampering. We know we are going to be pulling out the mules, peep-toe shoes, and sandals soon enough, so you are going to need to give your feet some attention.
Pro tip: Even if you get regular pedicures, it’s nice to keep your heels from being cracked and dry. For some reason, it’s one of my pet peeves, that women will spend the Money to paint their toes but ignore their heels.
That’s where moisturizing heel socks (or another brand that is less expensive) come into play. If you’ve never tried them, you’re missing out on one of the easiest self-care rituals. These socks are infused with hydrating ingredients like aloe or gel linings that soften your heels while you Sleep.
But what if you don’t want to buy something new? It may not be exactly the same, but moisturizing your heels with loads of lotion and then pulling on athletic socks might work just as well.
Spring is known for its unpredictable weather. One day it’s warm and sunny, and the next, there’s a cool breeze that makes you second-guess your outfit choices. This is why having the “perfect” topper is one of the spring wardrobe-essentials. In fact, I always think you need a handful of these toppers.
The beauty of a lightweight topper is you can wear it for dressier days (like Easter and Mother’s Day) or just a casual day running errands. These types of toppers are true springtime heroes. They act as part of your outfit yet you can easily layer over them when you go outside.
Styling Tip: Don’t forget that you can layer OVER these toppers for a more interesting look. You could wear a vest over either of them or even another jacket. You can think of them as a top like I have done with kimonos in the past.
Florals for spring? Groundbreaking! (I had to say it, and if it doesn’t mean anything to you, it’s the reference from the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”) But honestly, florals are a classic for a reason. There’s something about seeing nature come to life that makes us want to embrace it in our wardrobes too.
The best part? There are endless ways to incorporate florals. From flowy floral dresses to subtle floral-print scarves, even a floral handbag can add a touch of springtime charm to your outfit. If you’re hesitant about bold prints, start small with a floral accessory.
Styling Tip: Can’t stand florals? Then think about incorporating more colorful prints into your outfits. Pastels as well as bright pink, yellow, and orange give off a sprig vibe.
There’s something about a fresh pop of pink lipstick that just screams spring. Whether it’s a soft baby pink or a vibrant fuchsia, the right shade can instantly brighten up your face and elevate your entire look.
A pink lipstick is one of those beauty staples that work for all skin tones—you just have to find the right shade for you. If you love a natural look, opt for a rosy pink that mimics your lip’s natural hue. If you’re feeling bold, go for a statement-making hot pink that turns heads.
Beauty Tip: I have found the 2 All Day lipsticks that really stay on all day. They are Rimmel and Maybelline as reviewed lately.
The shoes that are hitting it big for our spring wardrobe essentials are 4 words: Mary Janes and Ballet flats.
There are others including retro sneakers (especially colorful ones) and dock shoes.
Shoes are one of the spring wardrobe essentials that could be worth Investing in at this time of year. While I don’t purge shoes too often, they are something that tends to wear out the fastest in my wardrobe.
Pro tip: Don’t forget that you can find a huge variety of discontinued styles on the site, Online Shoe Deals, and can save 10% with code COMFY10. Sure, they aren’t the newest styles out there, but last season’s styles are still wonderful.
If there’s one thing you need, it’s a pair of shoes that can keep up with your busy schedule without sacrificing style. So while I love looking at all of the new styles of shoes, I concentrate on comfort at this time of my life.
Because I scroll through social media A LOT and peruse shopping sites just as much, I notice which styles are big among both younger and older influencers.
These aren’t always the same as the runway styles. It’s what real women are wearing. They aren’t always new ideas (remember that styles circle around) but here is what I would consider popular.
Pro tip: While we tend to poo-poo the styles we’ve already worn because we went through the phase and purged them when they went “out of style,” I think it’s beneficial to NEVER SAY NEVER.
Only sticking with the things you like or already have is a recipe for frumpiness. Try it all. Have fun. Experiment with practicing styling for happiness.
Your spring wardrobe essentials should be all about light, fresh, and functional pieces that make transitioning out of winter feel seamless.
Sure, this is the time that you’ll be reading about all the “new” spring trends, but I bet you can save a ton of money just by shopping your closet.
And if you do want to buy something new, I appreciate you purchasing through my links, or better yet, go thrifting.
