This idea for what to wear with blue pants originated when we were first talking about things we had in our closet but didn’t wear.
Back in 2020, my mother pulled out a pair of blue pants and created a beautiful outfit that I used as one of our options.

And because of that, I wanted to create a color recipe that would help answer the question on what to wear with blue pants.

While everyone has denim, a pair of blue pants could be even more versatile. They could be worn dressy, casual or in between.

And as for what to wear with your blue pants, I broke it down into 4 categories so you could shop your closet and find a bunch of different outfits.

Insider tip: We get into habits about what to wear with certain items. The best thing to do the opposite of what you normally do to create variety in your looks.
An easy way to accomplish this is to take the item of choice and hold it up to every other item in your closet. This will give you loads of ideas.

Blue Pants

Blue comes up as a favorite color for many people. That’s why it beehoves us to know what to wear with blue pants.

For our examples my crew is showing a variety of blue pants. Different shades of blue as well as blue prints.

There is no shortage to the types of blue pants that can fill your closet.

As for thinking about the different color ideas for what to wear with blue pants, I broke it down into
1-Neutrals
2-Pastels
3-Different Shades of Blues
4-Brights

Jodie: Neutrals as What to Wear with Blue Pants

Any neutral would look great with blue pants.
-White or ivory
-Tan or brown
-Grey
-Black

I decided to choose white to pair with these blue camo joggers that I recently found for $1. You might say that the camo print has taken a hiatus on the trend radar.
But I think you can make almost any thing look modern by what you pair it with.

In fact, you can hardly tell that I am wearing a furry tube top since I wore it over a white blouse. It reminds me that yes, anyone can wear a tube top. Sure, maybe you’d feel more comfortable in it when you layer it over something else–like I did.

That denim flower “pin” is actually a necklace that I attached to the crop top with magnets. There are some similar on Amazon.

Insider tip: For my headband, I wrapped a scarf around a formed headband to change the color of it.

Lesley: Wearing Pastels with Blue Pants

Lesley shares that “I hesitated to buy printed pants since I carry my weight on my thighs, but the fit and feel of these pants were imporssilbe to resist.” I’m SO glad Lesley went outside her comfort zone with these pants because they look spectactular.

Insider tip: Prints are magical for hiding lumps and bumps. If you want to camoflauge a part of your body, wear a print instead of a solid.

Lesley loves the combination of yellow and blue together, so she paired this pastel yellow button blouse with her blue pants.

Other pastels for what to wear with blue pants:

-Peach
-Mint green
-Lilac

Not only is she rocking print pants, I love how she cuffed the hem. It’s extremely modern to cuff pants and show off ankles if the weather permits.

Insider tip: Removeable straps on your purses is a wonderful way to add sass to any looks. You can find them in all widths and colors.

Charlotte: Shades of Blues Worn Together

Another great option for what to wear with blue pants is different shades of blue.

While you could always try to create a monochromatic look, sometimes it can be hard to match the shades of blue perfectly. And if they are too close but don’t match, it can look unintentional.
That’s why I like the idea of wearing different shades of blue.

My mom sassed up her t-shirt with a scarf clip at the bottom hem and then even wore a fabric necklace.

The best part of my mom’s outfit is her metallic snakeskin flats. If she had worn blue shoes, it would give off a matchy matchy grandma vibe.

Brights: What to Wear with Blue Pants

Pants: Investments-thrifted ~~Cardigan: Johnson’s Cashmere-thrifted ~~ Top: Mom made it ~~ Shoes: SO from Kohls~~ ~~Hat: thrifted

This was the original outfit that my mom put together for what to wear with blue pants.
Since this pair of blue pants is a bright shade, it’s very cohesive to pair other bright colors with them.

My mom started by wearing a hand made blouse that she created over 20 years ago. It has a bright blue in it as well as loads of other colors. Which gives you a ton of options for other brights that would go with blue pants.
She used those other colors for her cardigan and for her hat.

And again, the addition of a different pair of metallic flats.
Kinda makes you think you need a pair, right?
