The Intersection of Arousal, Shame & Fear of Trans People
- The Intersection of Arousal, Shame & Fear of Trans People Deborah Lukovich, PhD 14:20
In this episode I read a blog post that I wrote after reflecting on a few chats with male clients over the past few months. Click here to read the post.
Some of those men were conscious of an inner battle between their feminine and masculine that was holding them back in some way from fully expressing their creativity. For other male clients, this battle involved their sense of identity and exploration of gender and sexual orientation.
What arouses us has deeper meaning than we realize, but our mind jumps in and filters out anything that it perceives to be a threat to existing belief systems. Some of those beliefs and assumptions are hidden from Consciousness.
Arousal is a way our unconscious speaks to us and when we feel shame about the arousal, the part of us that is trying to break free is in conflict with these beliefs. Suppressing the urge instead of exploring the deeper symbolic meaning only generates Anxiety and frustration, which eventually get projected outward onto others or inward potentially as Depression.
A depth psychology framework can help you explore the deeper symbolic meaning, the true source of arousal, which is authenticity.
I hope you enjoy and find my perspective helpful for yourself or for understanding others.
