Flex And Stretch – For The Not So Flexible &Raquo; Bbooks

Dot Daly, a certified exercise instructor who is over the age of 60, has developed a DVD to meet the exercise needs of the mature audience. The premise that movement keeps us fit, balanced and feeling our best, is adapted for the “Baby Boomer” and beyond to ensure optimal wellness. Dot’s fifty-minute routine comprises of Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates techniques for a relaxing yet comprehensive workout. Her choice of background music is calming; her instruction is gentle and encouraging. Strength training, flexibility and meditation are woven together and delivered slowly and kindly to promote success.

Those who have not maintained an active lifestyle may feel incapable of starting an exercise routine out of fear that they will either injure themselves or not be able to maintain motivation. Dot combats these issues by encompassing the fluid movements of Tai Chi to honor and care for the body, never stressing it beyond what is comfortable and natural; she prods the viewer forward in a pace that feels right for them so that they don’t feel overwhelmed and are likely to choose to continue. As she works to establish the habit of good health through simple body movements, she proves that anyone can do this. Rounding out the session with a period of meditation is lovely and enjoyable.
