There has never been such a focus on mental health as now and it’s so important to ensure people in your organization are doing well. No longer is mental health seen as something less important as physical health and you as an employee have a responsibility. There are more cases of workplace burnout now than ever and this can affect the people that work for you personally as well as impeding on their work ethic. If you are wanting the best for those that work for you, you need to think of ways that you can take care of their mental health. We have put together some top tips to help you along the way.

Offer flexible working

One reason that your employees might be feeling not so great mentally is that they are having to compromise their home life for work. If they have a long commute and don’t get to spend time at home they can feel demoralized and this can take its toll. Some people naturally work a lot better at home, so why not offer them the chance to work from home? You could do this by allowing them to work from home all the time or hybrid where they come into the office some of the time also. This can really help to boost morale and help their mental health and wellbeing.

Ensure they have someone to talk to

It’s a good idea to speak to HR support who can help with things such as this. Ensuring your employees have someone to talk to in the workplace is vital and whether this be on the phone, via email or in person there needs to be a higher power that they can escalate or air their concerns to.

Encourage and incentivize them to keep morale high

Another great way to take care of employees’ mental health is to encourage and incentivize them. If they are doing a lot of work, feeling stressed, and getting no recognition it could feel like a bit much. Instead, show you appreciate all their hard work by offering rewards. You could offer them physical items such as a bottle of wine or cider at the end of a week, you could let them have a Friday afternoon off, or just send an email of recognition. It’s the small things that normally make the biggest differences and you’ll be surprised how it can really help offer a boost to people in your company.

These are just a few things that can be done in order to take care of employees’ mental health. Mental health is a big thing that can’t be ignored and the people that work for you will appreciate it if you take it seriously. Make sure to look out for the signs of burnout and ensure you’re there for those that need it. Have you got techniques to help take care of your employee’s mental health? What is it you do to help?
