What to Wear With Leather Pants: Authentic and Age Defying
Does the idea of what to wear with leather pants seem inappropriate for women over 50? Gosh, I hope not. The idea of age-appropriate dressing has gone out the window just like how women could only be teachers and nurses, as well as many other ideas from our past.
Quote of the day: “The worst prison would be a closed heart.” Pope John Paul II
I’m not sure why leather pants seem so intimidating to us older folks. I say that only because I wasn’t sure about them when I first bought a pair over 5 years ago. In order to feel more comfortable in them, I paired them with a denim jacket which I considered safe.
And that’s the secret. Pair the new, intimidating piece with something you often wear and feel comfortable in.
The best part about wearing leather pants is the faux leather varieties mean you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg. It’s much easier to experiment with something new when it’s very budget-oriented.
Leather for older women is a modern and stylish option. We have discussed it in the past if you would love more inspiration.

Charlotte-What to Wear with Leather Pants
My mom and I were shopping at Macy’s because she had a gift card. And I stumbled on these leather pants in her size. Of course, I twisted her arm to try them on, and it was such a hot mama alert. Granted she had to shorten them a little, but they really give her such an incredible vibe.
For her option of what to wear with leather pants, she chose a black and white tunic. It makes her feel comfortable to be more covered, but I bet she’ll get bolder with wearing these in the future. Heck, she’s the one who made the original crew our faux leather skirts.
I think once we get past the stigmas that some clothing or material has, it broadens our personality with clothes. As you’ll read with Lesley’s outfit, we categorize almost everything, and that can be a roadblock in trying new things.
Reminder: Older women are just as cool and hip as they were when they were youngins. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. So get out there and wear all the hot mama looks.

When my mom first put together her outfit, she reverted to her matchy-matchy habit and wore black boots. Luckily she allowed me to suggest her red boots and then added more of that red color with her accents.
Keeping the entire look with a black-and-white scheme could have been very blah. And when you’re wearing hot mama leather pants, there is no reason to be blah.

Lesley-Leather Joggers in a Feminine Way
The truth of the matter is that I have tried to get Lesley into leather pants for the last couple of years. And she always declined the offer. Until I chose her name to style her at the thrift store with the goal of expanding our style zone.
On that day, I brought her a couple of different leather skirts and pants to try on, and finally, these joggers were a thumbs up. You can see in the original article how they were a tad too long (although with joggers, it’s more forgiving).
So I love that she told me she “bossed around her clothes” and put the elastic part higher up on her ankle and let the hem hang down to look like straight-leg pants.
Wanna hear her thoughts?
Lesley said, “Leather is for motorcycle bad boys, right? Ok, so I avoided leather pants as long as I could, or actually until Jodie ‘styled’ me for a thrifting day.
I had to convince myself that I could wear leather pants in a lady-like way. That’s why I paired them with a sexy neck top with a sheer, fluttery kimono topper. I added in red accessories and ‘bad girl’ red heels.
It was the perfect look to see a local play this evening.”

I love how Lesley also layered two necklaces (which is one of her specialties as seen here) and really put the emphasis on the red accents.
Insider tip: Changing the focal point is another secret to wearing a piece of clothing that you might consider too different for you.
Remember, if you don’t push yourself occasionally, you’ll look dated in no time.
Jodie-Leather Leggings with an Edgy Vibe
I already had a pair of faux leather leggings that were muted and not as shiny, but when I was shopping with my mom as she found her pair of leather pants, we found this pair that was only $5.
I’m not sure I love how they crinkle on the back of my thighs. It’s something I didn’t notice until looking at these photos. So they may not stay in my closet long.
I feel like I’ve learned to style all different items with my faux leather skirt many years ago. We experimented with lace, floral, silk, denim, and animal prints. So today I wanted to try an edgier vibe.
The faux leather vest still has a feminine air with the chiffon ruffle at the bottom. And the one-sleeve top made me laugh that it’s summer on the right side, and fall on the left side.

I’m such a sucker for turquoise accents, so I wore my turquoise combat boots along with turquoise jewelry (which we have proven that it goes with all colors.)
PS. Is anyone else focusing on the piece of thread hanging down from the vest? Trust me, I just went and clipped it off.
And then the Southwest print bag seemed like a fun option even though it’s not edgy. In fact, I think adding in a totally different element style makes it modern.
