Shirts To Wear With Blue Jeans: Fancy For Value
For our Thrifty 6 group of women, Shelbee decided we should style Denim Days. I know most women our age think that if you’re wearing denim, the rest of the outfit should be casual.
Yet I think we get more from our closets if we use dichotomy in our looks.
So I had my crew think about which fancy shirts to wear with blue jeans.
Quote of the day: “Never let the things you want make you forget the things you have.” Sanchita Pandey
I always love the idea of pairing something fancy with something more casual. In this day and age, the young girls wear blue jeans with anything and everything.
And women our age should be no different. Don’t get me wrong, I love wearing dresses and skirts for fancy occasions, but there are a bunch of options for fancy shirts to wear with blue jeans.
This isn’t the first time we have talked about different blue jean outfits. You might want to spend some time looking over these other articles too.
Blue Jean Styles
Blue jeans have come a long way since the time we were kids.
On top of that, the season is ripe for embracing all of the different styles of jeans. If you still love your skinny jeans, it’s okay to wear them. But you can also rock flare jeans, wide-leg jeans, and any other silhouette.
The other part of this article is how you can style them on a budget. Finding them while thrifting gives you a ton of value.
In fact, if you aren’t sure how different silhouettes will look, or what to wear with them, the best idea is to sign up for a 30-day free trial of the clothing rental service, Your Revolving Closet. This enables you to try a bunch of them and see how they look with the tops you have in your own closet.
Insider tip: Your Revolving Closet doesn’t have petites for us shorter women, so I only choose jeans/pants that are cropped or shorter on the models.
It’s a good trick even with online shopping for brands that don’t offer petites.
However, if you don’t like wearing preloved items, then I rounded up a bunch of blue jeans that are reasonably priced below.
Now let’s explore options of fancy shirts to wear with blue jeans.
Charlotte-Lace and Sequins with Blue Jeans
My mom’s first thought when I asked her to come up with fancy shirts to wear with blue jeans was this lace blouse.
Then since it was so lacey and see-through, we decided that her sequin top which she made ages ago would give it more sparkle and sass.
This sequin top is one that you might think is only good for holidays and celebrations. But you’d be wrong. My mom wore it with jeans years ago and received a ton of compliments wearing it that way. Heck, I even wore it with a floral skirt a couple of years back.
Lace. Who thinks lace is only fancy schmancy?? Again, you would be wrong. There is absolutely no reason why you can’t pair lace shirts to wear with blue jeans.
In fact, if you notice many of the lace shirts in the widget below are worn with jeans. It’s the modern way to wear lace.
Mom’s light-wash blue jeans were chosen for her when we thrifted for each other. She ended up shortening them, but otherwise, they were a good fit.
Lesley: Summer Fancy Shirts to Wear with Blue Jean Skort
“A little dressy, a little casual which is my idea of a perfect piece of clothing.” That’s how Lesley described this embroidered blouse that she paired with a blue jean skort.
Whether you like a skort or a skirt, denim ones are having their day. In fact, I’ve shown options for how to wear a denim skirt for older women.
They are wonderful since they come in all lengths and different denim washes.
Embroidered shirts can give you that dressy vibe since the pattern is so intricate, yet the cotton shirts they are on, lean towards a more casual air.
Jodie: One Shoulder Shirt and Two-Toned Blue Jeans
When I saw these two-toned pair of jeans while thrifting, I couldn’t pass them up. And look how perfect they fit.
I had never heard of the brand, but when I thrift, I look for what I like. If the brand is high-end or popular, that’s just the cherry on top.
I love these chain belts again. I’ve kept a bunch of them from when they trended back when I was a youngster.
Insider tip: Many of these belts can be worn as necklaces. Don’t believe me? I styled it here.
I figured this velvet one-shoulder top would elevate a pair of blue jeans. Heck, even Lesley wore a one-shoulder top recently. They aren’t just for the young kids.
Insider tip: Wearing a bra with a one-shoulder top can be a challenge. Some bras have interchangeable straps. I wore my favorite adhesive bra called Gatherall.

The Thrifty 6 With Denim Days
With the fashion and textile industry being a major contributor to landfills and other environmental pollution, we decided to make it the mission of this little group to focus on second-hand items. Every month we will choose a theme and share our styles with you to hopefully inspire you to shop more preloved and less fast fashion.
Insider tip: If there aren’t many wonderful secondhand shops near you, then I included a list of online shops that I love at the end of this post.

“This thrifted denim skirt made its first appearance for our first Thrifty 6 post nearly four years ago. But it was white back then. It ended up getting all stained and dirty so I dyed it. I love finding creative ways to give new life to old unwanted clothing. A little dye goes a long way! Because I didn’t originally style this outfit for a thrifty challenge, the only other preloved item is my rainbow snakeskin backpack.”

“I had a few bad buys on Vinted lately, and it really put me off to buy something again. But I didn’t have a pre-loved denim item in my closet! What to do? And then I remembered I had once bought a denim blouse on Vinted. I guess I sold it on pretty quickly as I can’t even remember wearing it, but here is the proof! It’s too oversized, don’t like that. Perhaps it’s time to look for a more fitted one as I think denim blouses are super cool! And I actually like double denim a lot. Weird for someone who doesn’t like jeans!”
Emma of Style Splash
“I don’t have a lot of thrifted denim but this jacket is my favourite. Many years ago, a friend gave me this Gap jacket but I didn’t wear it as I had another one already. Consequently, I almost gave it to the charity shop. But then I saw a trend for patches on denim jackets so I decided to try a little DIY with patches representing my favourite things, such as music and cats. When I pulled it out of the wardrobe for these photos, I remembered that I had two more patches that I hadn’t yet put on, so I quickly added those too! And I’m not done yet…there’s still more space to fill!”
Jane of Preloved-Vintage-Handmade
“April’s T6 theme is ‘Denim Days’…
…when it comes to ‘bang for your buck’, this outfit definitely delivers!
Look at the volume of denim fabric in this oversized shirt…
…and yet more in the capacious cargo jeans – they’re enormous!
It’s all menswear so I’m vamping it up with a cheeky denim bra.
A flash of utilitarian lingerie is just enough sass to make it sexy!”
Grace of Graceful Rags
“When I heard the denim theme, I knew right away I wanted to photograph this fabulous denim dress that I got at my favorite consignment store in Las Vegas, Alt Rebel. It’s from Eva Mendes’ clothing line, which seems obvious because it’s got that signature va-va-voom look of hers! I thought it would be so cute for spring with a bright lip and pops of color in the accessories. The only problem is, I’m not sure where to wear it!”
