Genuine Spotlight on Drew Shoes – Mens & Womens
Today’s focus is on Drew shoes, men’s and women’s athletic versions with a review for both. As we get older, it only makes sense that we focus on the comfort and functionality of our fitness shoes.
Quote of the day: “How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.” Washington Carver
I chose this quote because I believe in the power of a good-looking shoe. Yet most of Drew Shoes in Men’s and Women’s styles will not end up on any high fashion list. These shoes are made for a variety of foot issues and sizes that most average shoe brands don’t consider.
I will share some insider information about the company Drew Shoes and then give you genuine thoughts about the styles that both Rob and I were provided.
Insider tip: I have been given a discount code for my readers. STYLE10 which is good for 10% off orders of over $100.
Since shoes are an important factor, many of my previous articles have focused on comfortable shoes.
Information About Drew Shoes-Mens & Womens
With a 145-year history, Drew has refined and mastered the science of therapeutic comfort footwear. The entire Drew Collection is an inventive combination of function and style, working to keep the feet healthy—and looking great. The brand offers added depth, removable insoles, and one of the widest size/width combinations in the industry. Drew selects the ultimate comfort materials to pamper and protect even the most tired, aching feet.
Drew’s history dates back to 1875 when Irving Drew, with only a few experienced shoemakers, started the business of hand-making extra fine welt shoes for women along the Ohio River in Portsmouth, Ohio, giving birth to the Drew Shoe Corporation (FKA the Irving Drew Shoe Company). The quality of the shoes produced was excellent, and the business prospered creating a sizable company.
Drew Shoe Corporation currently owns and operates a facility in Lancaster, Ohio, which houses its warehousing, distribution, and administrative functions, along with an office and Outlet Store in Columbus, Ohio. Drew’s 145+ year history has earned the company an excellent reputation resulting in a very high level of repeat business. Its primary customers include independent podiatrists, orthotic and prosthetic shops, as well as many of the best independent shoe retailers in the United States.
And now, hopefully, they will have your business too.
Rob Wearing the Surge
These are the Drew Shoes-Mens Surge athletic shoes in white leather/mesh. They are also available in black or grey if you don’t like a bright white sneaker.
Here is what the Drew Shoes website says about the Surge sneakers:
- Plus Fitting System® – Two Removable Footbeds for Added and Double Depth
- Drilex® Lining
- Tri-Support Insole
- Built-In Heel Cushion Pad
- Rocker Bottom and Wide Shank
- Durable Rubber Outsole and EVA Midsole
- Tempered Steel Shank
- Extended Medial Heel Stabilizer
- Full, Rounded Toe
- Soft, Foam-padded Tongue and Collar
- Accommodates Prescribed Orthotics
Rob’s Thoughts about Drew Shoes Men’s Surge Style
When Rob first tried on these sneakers, he felt like they were heavy and almost tight in the toe area even though he ordered his usual size. In fact, we discussed that maybe Rob didn’t review the shoes because his first outing in them didn’t feel great.
But luckily he put them on for a second, third, and subsequent time, and they kept feeling better and better. The toe area must have stretched enough that he didn’t feel like they were too small.
He noticed it kept his feet straight instead of pronating as they usually do on our walks.
Insider tip: That’s the thing about these kinds of Drew Shoes-mens and womens. They give your foot the support they need to make you feel more stable on your feet.
Jodie Wearing the Terrain
These are the Terrain sneakers in the ivory mesh combo. They also come in grey/purple, wine knit, taupe/teal, and black knit.
I chose these because I love the mesh detail, I feel like it’s more stretchable and seems more comfortable for those long days on your feet.
Here is what the Drew Shoes website says about the Terrain sneakers:
- Plus Fitting System® with Walk Right Technology Insole – two removable footbeds for the perfect fit
- Lightweight, Polyurethane Outsole – durable and slip-resistant
- Drilex® Lining– wicks away moisture and keeps your feet comfy and dry
- TPU Shank with dual heel stabilizer system – provides protection and stability
- Extended Medial Heel Stabilizer and Firm Heel Counter – cradles the heel and arch and reduces over-pronation
- Soft, Foam-padded Tongue and Collar – prevents irritation and heel slippage for all-day comfort
- Accommodates Prescribed Orthotics
Jodie’s Thoughts About Drew Shoes Women’s Terrain Style
These aren’t what I would consider your style-forward sneakers. Yet in saying that, I will admit that clunky sneakers are being worn by the young kids. And once you see the company’s photo below, I might have to eat my words. One of the reasons I ordered the ivory mesh is because white sneakers are having their day.
In the past, I’ve had orthotics that I’ve needed to wear in shoes that don’t have good support. This kind of sneaker makes it so I don’t need my orthotics.
Insider tip: Our definition of comfy can vary. I’ve been a fan of Ros (formerly Walking Cradles) because of their tiny pillows which give you a cushion for the insole. These do not have that cushy feel.
There is controversy about the advantage/disadvantage of having a hard surface for walking vs having a foam/cushy surface.
It makes me think it’s good to have variety and to alternate so you are switching things up.
I’ve worn these shoes for countless dog walking outings and my feet felt great. I originally thought I wouldn’t be wearing these sneakers as part of one of my stylish outfits, but after seeing the below photo from the brand’s recent photoshoot, I have second thoughts.
Sheec Socks
BTW, I am wearing my compression socks from Sheec. I know the trend for the last 10 years has been no-show socks, but I’m confident that will change. And when you have comfortable shoes, you might as well have comfortable socks too. Mine are the ankle style. I tried the crew socks but didn’t like those as much.
The advantage of these Comfits from Sheec is they are structured to the anatomy of your foot as well as these properties from their website:
- BREATHABLE Aqua-X Fiber
Keep Your Feet Cool - MOISTURE-WICKING AeroDri Fiber
Keep Your Feet Dry - Specially Designed Knit for NATURAL GRIP Sole
Polypropylene yarn + AeroDri fiber sole offers maximum durability
