Artsy Style: Popular Artwork and 5 Outfits That Match
My online book club shared this entertaining post that made me think of the term “Artsy” style. The photographer spends years waiting for museum visitors to match artworks.
So I decided to have a little fun with some of my older looks.

Considering that I’m not an art connoisseur, I searched the site of 500 of the most popular prints to find ones that I had outfits to match.
This is not a new concept. Some of my friends regularly host Style Imitating Art on their site. Here is one of their fun posts.
But I created my “artsy” style backward. I searched my huge collection of outfits to find ones I’d already worn that would match the artwork.
As we know, inspiration can come in many forms, and in the past, we have used all kinds of ideas for our looks.
Artsy Style with Monet
A field of flowers reminds me of when I wore two floral prints together. The colors and idea of flowers made it a no-brainer.
Outfit info: I won this skirt in an Instagram giveaway years ago, and the top is from the now-defunct site, VNV. The top seemed too low-cut for me, so I removed the elastic from the sleeves and cut them down so that I could add extra material at the neckline.
When Your Dress Matches the Artwork
I saw this photo of “The Kiss” and immediately thought of this dress.
Did the person who created the material have this art in mind? Who knows, but it looks so similar.
Outfit info: I used some credits to get this dress off the now-defunct eShakti site. It’s one of those dresses that is perfect for hot weather, yet I wore it with a hoodie sweater under it and boots for the winter.
Blue and Yellow
Sometimes the artwork’s color scheme is an easy one to replicate.
Outfit info: This blue dress is from thredUp and the jacket was handed down to me by my cousin.
Hat Inspiration
For this Artsy style look, it was the hat that grabbed my attention.
Outfit info: This dress is from the now-defunct eShakti site. I accessorized with turquoise for the overall look and then wore an orange beret to finish it off. The beret was thrifted. My mom gave me the belt, and the shoes were once my BFF’s before she passed away.
Artsy Inspiration Ideas
While I wasn’t wearing a blue head wrap OR a pearl earring, I thought the headband and yellow sweater gave off the same vibes as Van Delft’s painting.
Outfit info: The yellow sweater is one that I hand-knit years ago and still have in my collection. The ivory headband was passed down to me from my cousin and I knit the fingerless gloves also.
As a side note, I always love looking back at older outfits. I realized with these photos that I still have all of the clothing items.
