How To Build A Successful Remote Team

Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:

How To Build A Successful Remote Team

Remote work has changed a lot in the past few years. It’s highly likely you’ll remember a time when it wasn’t done at all, or if it was, there were a lot of wires, programs, and software to set up—and it often didn’t want to connect, leaving everyone confused and unproductive.

Of course, since the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, many people have had to work from home not through choice but through necessity. Accordingly, home-based jobs are much more widespread, and many companies have yet to return to the office. And it does make sense – when you have a remote team, you can hire the best people, not just those who can commute to the office. Additionally, business owners save Money, and employees are typically more productive. Or at least that’s the idea. But how can you be sure your remote team is thriving with plenty of productivity and motivation? There are specific steps to consider, and that’s why our collaborative blog offers tips on how to build a successful remote team.

Hire Well

The first step to building a successful remote team is to hire well from the start. Ensure you employ people with the right attitude and work ethic, not to mention the experience and knowledge you’re looking for. It shouldn’t matter if they’re working from their home miles away or sitting at the desk next to you—the outcome will be the same.

The ideal remote employee is self-motivated and disciplined and should also be able to manage their time well. Inquire about it in an interview, and include those details in your job ad. Remote workers must excel at communicating with others, both verbally and through emails and messaging systems, because without good communication, remote workers won’t get much done.

When interviewing people, look for those who already have experience in remote working, as then you can be sure they’ll be suited to it. It’s also a good idea to ask questions about how they prioritize tasks, overcome distractions, and stay motivated—their answers can help you determine whether they’ll be a good fir for remote work.

Encourage Collaboration

If you want your remote team to be successful and productive, ensure that collaborative work occurs, as it’s essential for your business. The problem is that it can get tricky when people aren’t together all the time (or at all), especially if there are time differences to complicate matters. However, as luck would have it, tools have already been created to make this less of a problem. You can install those programs and systems on any remote worker’s equipment and ensure you train everyone (regularly) on how to use them properly. Collaboration doesn’t just become possible; it is more accessible, too, making it more likely to happen.

You can use various platforms; two that come to mind immediately are Slack and Microsoft Teams. More exist and selecting the one that suits your business and your budget is vital. Once you have the appropriate system, you can arrange for meetings, brainstorming sessions, time for breaks, and more informal chat. If it can happen in an office, why not when you have the remote team together? Doing so will make people feel more comfortable and relaxed at work and ensure they take breaks, which leads to better productivity.

Manage Productivity

If you’re in charge of a remote team, one of your duties is to manage the team well while encouraging their best work. However, you want to avoid micromanaging them because the people become uncomfortable and defensive. Ultimately, feeling as if you don’t trust them, little effort will go into their work, and will likely seek Employment elsewhere.

There is a balance between too much management and needing more; remote employee monitoring can be helpful when used responsibly. This monitoring tool can give you insights into what’s happening with your team and how they work. You will be able to spot where there are issues (perhaps a project is a particularly challenging one. It becomes evident because your team isn’t working through it as quickly as usual. And if someone’s struggling, ensure you can offer extra support and assistance before it gets too bad.

The key is to ensure this tool is used to boost productivity – not to spy on people. It would help if you let them know you’re using it and why you want to have it in place. Most of the time, people will forget it’s even running, and they’ll appreciate the information it gives you because it means they will get some extra help when needed, often before they even ask for it.

Build A Strong Culture

When you think about a positive company culture, you’ll probably consider office perks, such as casual Fridays, team outings, or free snacks. However, those things aren’t going to be quite as exciting to those who work from home; they’re not going to be able to benefit from them.

That’s why you must develop a new culture and make it as strong as the traditional one. Doing so will keep your remote team feeling much more connected. Many options exist, but a few to consider include virtual events, online games, trivia nights, or even virtual happy hours if they work for you and make your remote team happy.

Conclusion: How To Build A Successful Remote Team

Create an environment where remote staff enjoy working for you. This will likely translate to their being more productive without you monitoring their every move. In short, the process builds trust and can increase loyalty for long-term employment, helping boost the company’s bottom line.

Elinor Stutz International Best-Selling Author

Elinor Stutz broke through barriers long before doing so was popular. Against all the odds, she defied the theme “women can’t sell” to become the top producer at every company she ever worked for, ignoring attempts to get her to quit.

Eleven years later, I lay motionless on a stretcher with an irreparably broken neck. Two visions appearing before me, and a brilliant gold light encasing my entire body, gave me a reason to believe I would recover. I wholeheartedly knew I was about to empower audiences far and wide. At the moment, I negotiated a full recovery with the promise to be of service. The surgeon and hospital staff anointed me with the title “The Walking Miracle.”

As the CEO of Smooth Sale, Stutz adapted the motto, “Believe, Become, Empower.” Believe in yourself; Become the person you envision; Empower your audience to do the same. Stutz is on the Social Media Committee for Inclusion Allies Coalition devoted to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
