Embracing the mindset of ‘never give up’ and ‘seek out the better path’ no matter the conversation(s) behind your back is a primary factor for the secrets of sales success. However, only some people are willing to do what it takes to embrace the secrets of sales success, particularly when adversity rears its ugly head.
Better yet, strive to eventually find the good company of another and then another (few and far between) with a similar mindset. Doing so is our reward for climbing through adversity as if we were heading toward the mountaintop!
My Story
There are two sides to the sales profession; hopefully, those in the career path will have similar fun-filled conversations with those that I had with my clientele. It contributes to the drive to continue making better connections, sharing stories with laughter, and building Relationships.
Treasure the Like-Minded Salespeople
Ellee Kennedy is the perfect example of someone who mirrors my style, shares similar humor, and contributes to inspiring conversations. Upon receiving the invitation to be her guest on her new podcast, ‘Slay the Sale’, a smile overcame me, and I knew we had much in common.

Avoid Writing Off Prospects
The right fit for what we sell needs to occur at the appropriate time. Therefore, when a person says ‘no,’ ask the following questions to understand their reasoning better:
- Is your ‘no’ due to budgeting issues?
- Hearing ‘yes,’ ask if it’s okay to check back later and follow up with, ‘When will be best?’
- Remind them of their request upon checking in, and then ask, ‘Is now a good time to revisit the conversation?’
Mindset Matters
Keep in mind that ‘no’ is frequently a temporary answer. When one politely inquires about a better time, a green light generally allows the salesperson to move forward. While ego has no place in sales, motivation to do one’s best gives way to perseverance and the commitment to learning.
Our best teachers are our prospective clientele when we are willing to inquire about the following:
- Their preferences and their reasoning
- Their timeline
- Their budget *
Know that ‘no’ is frequently temporary and that the budget can change due to either executive orders or upon the prospecting realizing the value we bring to their benefit.

It’s not an easy task by any means and requires:

Contemplation Habit
Our subconscious and intuition can direct our advancements when we consider them regularly. Upon realizing you may be in a comfort zone that you don’t wish to leave, that’s the perfect time to challenge yourself to do so!
Admit to the question: will you challenge yourself to move ahead of the pack and slay the upcoming sale?
