I told myself if I didn’t have kids by 25, I wouldn’t be a mom. Well, life had other plans, and I had my first baby three months shy of my 38th birthday.
At nearly four months along, I experienced a threatened miscarriage and was placed on bedrest for two weeks. It was terrifying. I sobbed in the ER, thinking I was losing my baby.
But Chloe held on like the trouper she is. She was born in Sevilla, Spain on a Friday during Feria. That year, Mother’s Day in Spain fell the next Sunday, so she was quite literally my Mother’s Day gift.
From day one, Chloe had this look that said, “I know more than you think I do.” She still does. She’s been traveling solo since the age of 9 (having Family in other countries helped), and I knew that letting her go was how I’d help her grow.
At 18, she moved to California with my sister @lauralcb, her godmother. I cried my eyes out, but I never once told her not to go. A few months later, she flew solo to Australia. Since then, she’s seen more of the world than most people twice her age. We meet wherever we can: Lake Tahoe, Madrid, Sarasota or some place in between. The reel is from my latest trip, where I went to Kirkwood, her place of work, and enjoyed seeing her in her element.
Today, Chloe turns 25. She’s a trained EMT and a ski patroller. A year ago, she narrowly escaped death in a hiking accident, but in true Chloe form, she came back stronger. I swear she has nine lives. Brave, noble, kind-hearted, and filled with grit, she is everything I admire in a human being.
She’s now dealing with doctors and procedures to get some Health-related answers, as we share a recent diagnosis of SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) although mine doesn’t interfere with my life, and hers does. But she still lives to the max.
Happy, happy birthday to @cxn_33, the woman who made me a mother. May the 4th be with you, always. I Love you more than words will ever convey, and I’ll be forever grateful that you exist.
