Hi everyone.
As we learned in the first part of this two-part series, metabolic dysfunction, sometimes referred to as metabolic syndrome, is at the root of such things as fatty liver disease, obesity, kidney malfunction, Diabetes, renal failure, cognitive disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and brain fog… and so many other conditions that adversely affect our health and well-being.
In Part 2, I’ll continue my conversation with our guest expert, Dr. Robert Lustig, on the subject of metabolic syndrome.
On this episode, Dr. Lustig will cover such things as (1) how do we determine how “processed” a food is, especially if we are in the supermarket, (2) what are the two kinds of carbs, and which one is better for you, (3) why might COVID mortality be higher in the more developed countries of the world, and (4) what are some things Dr. Lustig and his colleagues are working on to address the problems linked to processed foods, low fiber intake, and high sugar consumption.
Finally, Dr. Lustig will speak about what changes he sees coming down the pike in tackling the metabolic syndrome crisis. And, hey, that’s where the really encouraging news comes in!
Dr. Robert H. Lustig, M.D., M.S.L. is Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology and a Member of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Lustig is a neuroendocrinologist, with expertise in metabolism, obesity, and nutrition. He is one of the leaders of the current “anti-sugar” movement that is changing the food industry. He has dedicated his Retirement from clinical medicine to help to fix the food supply any way he can, to reduce human suffering and to salvage the environment.
Dr. Lustig graduated from MIT in 1976, and received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College in 1980. He received his Masters of Studies in Law (MSL) degree at University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2013. He is the author of the popular books Fat Chance (2012), The Hacking of the American Mind (2017), and Metabolical: The Lure and the Lies of Processed Food, Nutrition, and Modern Medicine (2021).
Dr. Lustig is also the Chief Science Officer of the non-profit Eat REAL, and he is on the Advisory Boards of the UC Davis Innovation Institute for Food and Health, the Center for Humane Technology, Simplex Health, Levels Health, and ReadOut Health. Finally, he is the Chief Medical Officer of BioLumen Technologies, Foogal, Perfact, and Kalin Health.
