Stroke Awareness: Critical Information for the Baby Boomer Generation
Stroke awareness is critical for everyone, but it holds particular significance for the baby Boomer Generation. As this group ages, understanding the risks, symptoms, and preventive measures associated with stroke can save lives and improve quality of life. A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting the oxygen and nutrients it needs. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die. The Ischemic stroke is the most common type of stroke, accounting for about 87% of all cases. It happens when a blood clot blocks or narrows an artery leading to the brain. The Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, leading to bleeding in or around the brain. The Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) is often called a mini-stroke and has a temporary period of symptoms similar to those of a stroke but doesn’t cause permanent damage and is a warning sign for future strokes.
In this section, our contributors talk about stroke awareness, stroke symptoms, stroke treatment and stroke prevention. We should all be aware of the symptoms of a stroke. If we see our elder loved ones with their face drooping, weakness in the arms, speech difficulties, loss of vision, loss of balance or sudden severe headaches, immediately call 911. The sooner a stroke is treated, the better the chances of minimizing brain damage and improving recovery outcomes.

the Dog Days of Summer.
Now, before you go looking for Duke or George lounging in their
kiddie pools, let’s get one thing straight: this has nothing to do with actual dogs.
No matter how much your basset hound is flopped on the tile floor like a fuzzy throw
rug, the “Dog Days” aren’t named for him.
Here’s the fun trivia to impress your grandkids (or bo…

No matter who we are or what we do in life, at some point (some more frequently than others) we will be involved with someone who is dying.
This is life. We are born, we experience, and we die. We go through labor to arrive here, and we go through labor to leave here.
There are just two ways to die: gradual or fast. Fast dying is being alive one minute and dead the next. Fast death can come from a heart attack, a stroke, or what we call “an accident.” There is no preparation, very little warning — if any. Fast death is harder on us, the survivors, as we figure out how to process and live…

For decades, the fashion industry has operated on a simple assumption: design for the "average" body, and everyone else will figure it out.
But what happens when you can't lift your arms high enough to pull a sweater over your head? When arthritis makes buttoning a shirt feel like solving a Rubik's cube? When a stroke leaves one side of your body weaker, turning getting dressed into a 45-minute ordeal?
For millions of people (seniors, people with disabilities, those recovering from surgery or injury) fashion hasn't just been inaccessible. It's been an afterthought.
That's changing. And the shi…

To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. If you have not had the pleasure of visiting an Emergency Room lately, let me assure you that it is nothing like the televised medical dramas. On television, heroic doctors and nurses are the stars, and the patients are minor characters. But when you are the patient, you might think you are the center of the story, and you would be wrong. You’re still a bit player. Forget the suspenseful drama and fast-paced action – you …

There comes a point in life when travel changes. When we're younger, travel is often about adventure, excitement, checking destinations off a bucket list, or simply getting away from work. We race through museums, snap photos of famous landmarks, and squeeze every possible activity into a packed itinerary. But something shifts as we reach midlife. Travel becomes less about seeing more and more about experiencing more.In a recent conversation with travel entrepreneur and bestselling author Wesley Baker, we explored why travel often takes on greater significance during the halftime years of life…

Every January, a panel of doctors and dietitians sits down to rank the world's eating patterns, and every year the same one comes out on top. Then every summer, most of us start living it without realizing. More tomatoes and peaches than we can use, fish on the grill, olive oil on everything, and long dinners outside with people we like. That is the Mediterranean way of eating, and the surprising thing about the healthiest diet in the world is how little it asks of you. Here is what it really is, why it works, and how to slide into it this season without following…
