Vivek Ramaswamy Backed Down from his Presidential Campaign says Trump will have his Full Support
Vivek Ramaswamy has decided to suspend his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination on Jan 15.
The biotech entrepreneur has ended his bid for the election and instead has nominated Donald Trump.
Why the suspension?
He decided to do so after he came fourth in the Iowa caucuses. He felt he was unfit for the presidential race and instead, he chose to nominate Trump for the same.
Trump came first after a record-setting win in the Caucuses on Monday which defined his grip on the presidential nomination.Â
The second place was gripped by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and just a little behind him came former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.Â
The result has left Trump with a strong hold on the GOP nomination and knowing Ramaswamy couldn’t defend his stand, he decided to endorse Trump for the elections as there was no lead for him in the race.
He called Trump on Monday to congratulate him on his victory and announced to his supporters at the Des Moines hotel that he would support Trump for the presidency.
He even said that Trump would lead America well as the president and has the chance to be involved in Trump’s campaign from Trump’s speech in New Hampshire on Tuesday. He suggested the other two candidates withdraw from their fight for the presidential election indirectly telling them they did not have a chance to beat Trump.
During his campaign too, he had always pointed out his opponents but always praised Trump, calling him the “best president of the 21st century.”
The people were hopeful that he would become an alternative for Trump due to his idea of revolution but his decision to suspend the campaign proves that even after Trump’s piled up criminal indictments, he still dominates the GOP politics and remains a strong nominee.
He decided to drop his presidential campaign but was up for the vice-presidential seat just after two hours when Trump won the Iowa caucuses.
He was known for his aggressive campaign during the GOP presidential debates where he attacked his opponents with constructive as well as personal criticism. He had gained support for his campaign during the summer but lost the momentum coming through winter, when he announced his candidacy for the election in February 2023.
Who is Vivek Ramaswamy?
The founder of Roivant Sciences, a pharmaceutical company as well as an author, he was born to Indian parents.
He had his political involvement since 2004 but was not an active politician, he supported Donald Trump for the 2020 elections but has donated to both Democrats and the Republicans.
It was in 2022 that he actively sought politics as he considered running for the 2022 U.S. Senate election in Ohio and in February 2023, he declared his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election as a Republican nominee.
He had proposed extreme policies like raising the voting age to 25, and shutting down the FBI and IRS, along with that, he had sought to impress the Christian nationalists that formed an important base for the Republicans. Unfortunately, he wasn’t welcomed because of his non-Christian background.
Although he has announced his support for Trump, he has earlier spoken against him. He had described Trump’s defeat as “abhorrent” and the Jan 6 attack as a bad day for democracy. Apart from this, he has also been subject to various criticism for his views that U.S. politicians support Israel for their interests.
Nevertheless, his backing down from the Republican presidential bid has proved the dominance of Trump over the GOP and has secured him his nomination for the presidential seat.
