Effects of a Toxic Work Environment

1. High employee turnover: Toxic work cultures often lead to high employee turnover rates due to employees feeling undervalued, unsupported, and unappreciated.

2. Decreased productivity: Employees in toxic work environments often experience stress, fear, and Anxiety, which can lead to decreased productivity and poor job performance.

3. Poor team morale: A toxic work culture can negatively affect team morale, resulting in resentment, distrust, and conflicts between colleagues.

4. Increased absenteeism: Employees who are unhappy and stressed in their workplace are more likely to take sick leave or time off, resulting in increased absenteeism.

5. Burnout: A toxic work environment can often lead to burnout, where employees feel exhausted both physically and mentally, leading to a decrease in work efficiency.

6. Mental health issues: Employees may experience anxiety, Depression, and other mental health issues due to a toxic work environment, affecting their overall well-being.

Sapna Shah-Haque Internal Medicine Physician

Dr. Sapna Shah-Haque, MD is a board certified Internal Medicine physician. She was born and raised in Kansas, and attended medical school at the University of Kansas [KU] School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at KU-Wichita as well. After experiencing burnout herself, and watching other physician colleagues burn out, it became a passion of hers to look into different aspects of burnout. While the system does need to change, as it is broken, this podcast is a way to reach physicians and possibly shed light on what is not an isolated situation.
