Popular Color Combinations With Gold
I’m all about changing up our color pairings to make our closet seem bigger. That’s why I wanted to figure out the popular color combinations with gold and we are bringing 4 fabulous examples.
Quote of the day: “If we are only interested in results, we defeat the purpose. The process is the purpose.” Unknown
When I asked ChaptGPT for the popular color combinations with gold, it gave me the options of black, white, pink, and gem tones. So I asked my crew to style their metallic gold items with these colors so you could see for yourself how they look.
The truth of the matter is that gold (not the mustard yellow variety) is metallic and should pair with nearly everything since it could be considered neutral.
There are subjective likes and dislikes depending on preferences of color contrast and your mood but color combinations with gold are plentiful.
Insider tip: Even though metallic gold is shiny and seems fancy, there is no lack of ways to make it more casual. For example, Cathie is wearing sneakers and put on a black leather jacket in the photo of us from the back.
In the past, Lesley showcased her favorite color with gold and that article even includes an option with mustard yellow gold if you want more ideas.
Also, it’s good to note that gold can refer to many different shades of color. In the widgets I’ve provided, you will notice shades of gold from a bronze color all the way to a light gold color and everything in between.
As an added varietal, you’ll notice that even though we all wore dresses and skirts, our footwear choices are different.
1. Jodie- Gold and Black
The combination of gold and black creates a fabulous contrast. It’s a timeless pairing that works for both casual and formal settings.
The contrast between the soft metallic sheen of this gold dress with the black sweater and tights is chic and I even added in pops of red for extra.
Why It Works: Black serves as the perfect backdrop for gold, allowing its warm tones to pop without overpowering the look.
Shoe choice: I wore a black bootie and even added a clip-on earring to add more interest. I showcased this in an earlier post.
Details:
1-This shift dress is from Just Be Youtiful and is one of those that can be layered in all kinds of ways.
2-I used my “cardigan pins” to shorten my sleeves and add decor.
3-My “belt” is a scarf held together with a scarf clip.
2. Valerie- Gold and White
Gold and white create a clean and airy aesthetic. This pairing is perfect for daytime events, summer outings, or even winter whites with a golden twist.
Since our weather was very temperate that day, Valerie only wore a tank top beneath this open-weave sweater. However, in colder weather, it could still be worn with a long-sleeved t-shirt or turtleneck.
Why It Works: White softens the boldness of gold, creating a harmonious and balanced look that feels fresh and modern.
Shoe choice: Valerie paired metallic gold sandals with her look. I’m a huge fan that metallic shoes are essential in everyone’s closet no matter the season.
Details:
1-Valerie chose a black tank top under her open-weave gold sweater. It provides a wonderful contrast.
2-Notice the long kimono Valerie added in the photo we took from behind. It’s black and white and adds an extra layer of fabulousness.
3. Cathie- Gold and Pink
Gold and pink make for a delightful pairing that’s feminine and fun. Whether it’s a soft blush or a vibrant fuchsia, pink brings out the warm undertones of gold.
Cathie created an alluring look with this embroidered corset top along with the metallic gold pleated skirt.
Why It Works: The warmth of gold complements the softness of pink, creating a look that’s both eye-catching and harmonious. Instead of being such a contrast, this is more of a blended color combination.
Shoe choice: Cathie opted for white sneakers for her look with color combinations with gold. Not only is this a modern choice, but it’s also very functional since sneakers are comfy.
Details:
1- Notice the fabulous combination of textures with the gold lame skirt and embroidery on Cathie’s top. Texture can be a huge factor in a look.
2-I love how Cathie mixed her metals by including a silver necklace and earrings.
4. Charlotte-Gold and Gem Tones
Gem tones like emerald, sapphire, and amethyst pair beautifully with gold, creating a rich and regal aesthetic. These colors give a beautiful contrast just like the example shown with black.
We have shown how to wear gem colors with brown in the past which shows how these colors can work with a wide range of shades.
Why It Works: Gold enhances the richness of gem tones, making them appear even more vibrant and luxurious.
Shoe choice: My mom wore both purple-based tights and pumps with her purple dress.
Details:
1-Charlotte is wearing a gold scarf with her gold jacket. Both are different shades of gold, yet look wonderful together.
2-Since my mom loves the idea of matching, she grabbed a different shade of purple for her purse.
3-My mom added the clasps on this jacket. If you have an open jacket, you could always use magnets to create a closure.
Final Thoughts on Color Combinations with Gold
Gold is a color that can adapt to any style, mood, or occasion, depending on how you pair it. Whether you’re leaning into the classic sophistication of black, the understated elegance of white, the playful femininity of pink, or the regal drama of gem tones, there’s a gold combo for you.
But wait…these ideas are not the only color combinations with gold you can wear. My premise of having fun with our style is all about trying all kinds of options that might be in your closet.
Insider tip: Hold up your gold clothing item to everything in your closet to give you more ideas. Don’t automatically rule something out until they are next to each other. You’ll never know the color combination surprises that await you.
So the next time you’re reaching for something fun to wear, consider these color combinations with gold to make your outfit shine.
