Infinity Dress-7 Ways To Wear A Convertible Dress
When I first saw this piece for our modeling foray with Just Be Youtiful, I wasn’t sure I could pull it off. The sleeves seemed overpowering until I put my thinking cap on and figured out I could be the boss.
Thus I came up with the idea to share 7 ways to wear a convertible dress.
Quote of the day: “The secret is there’s no secret. You just have to put one foot in front of the other.” Anonymous
Once I started thinking about this dress in different ways, more ideas came tumbling out.
So while I’m showcasing 7 ways to wear a convertible dress like this, there could easily be more. The secret? Go play in your closet and make it fun. There is no right and wrong.
In fact, this reminded me of a video I shared in my email weeks ago where a woman took the long sleeves of her knit dress and transformed them to make the dress look different.
It’s not unlike many of the articles I share like those below.
Insider tip: Remember you can turn items upside down, backward, tuck, and tie as well as layer items in so many ways. Don’t be limited by how an item is sold to you.

Convertible Dresses
This idea of multiple ways to wear a convertible dress makes your closet bigger and is especially advantageous when traveling.
I have seen other types of infinity dresses. Part of it depends on how much convertibility you want or would use in this type of dress.

- Sandset-Use code JODIEFILOGOMO: This dress can be worn in over 20 ways. It is limited in colors at this time.
- Amazon-They call it a bridesmaid dress but there’s no reason anyone can’t wear it every day.

- Cabana Life-Dress converts to a skirt.
- American Eagle-Dress to skirt.
- eBay-Convertible maxi dress.
- Even Walmart Convertible neckline.
Insider tip: Remember, you are the boss of your clothes, so if you don’t want a maxi style, it could be shortened.

Infinity Dress
So here’s the dress worn with the sleeves as they are. Long, drapey, statement sleeves.
Insider tip: What played in my head was to think of the sleeves as scarves, and how can I style a stretchy scarf.
Here’s the thing. Notice in the two photos how the dress is longer and then shorter. That’s because it’s ruched and can be pulled up to be the length you want.
I’d also call it a bodycon dress but that shouldn’t put you off. Because it’s a print AND ruched, all lumps and bumps are camouflaged marvelously.
But let’s talk about the elephant in the room.
Those sleeves.
They are cool. They make a statement, but how in the heck would you eat with them like that?
That’s when I started getting creative with ways to wear a convertible dress like this.
Insider detail: Notice the metal circle in my chest area. That’s a Maggie’s magnet used to make the neckline higher as I was uncomfortable showing too much cleavage.
There will be other ways to cover the cleavage without using a magnet.
Or I could sew it together more, but then again, that might limit some of the convertibility factor.
Here is the video where you can see some of the styling in action.
1-Tuck the sleeves
What I did here was take each sleeve across the top half of my body and tuck it under each strap from inside to outside.
This will cover the cleavage and shorten the sleeves all in one.
Now the sleeves are a more manageable length.
2-Tie the Ends
As the next step after #1 (pulling the sleeves across the body and through the straps), you could then take those sleeves and tie them behind you at the waist.
This still gives you coverage over the front half and showcases a short-sleeved look.
Insider tip: If you’ll be sitting, having a knot at the back of your waist can be annoying, so you could tie it on the side instead or wrap it around the other way so it ties in front.
3-Knot the ends and Toss
Another way to tame those sleeves is to create a knot at each end. The sleeves were still long this way but didn’t hang on the floor.
The advantage of having a knot at the end is that it creates more weight and allows me to throw one sleeve over my shoulder and it stays put.
You could easily throw both sleeves over the opposite shoulders when eating.
4-Wrap Dress
For this idea of ways to wear a convertible dress, I created a wrap dress look.
I took those long sleeves behind me and wrapped them around my waist to the front. I tied a knot to keep them together and the ends hung down the front of the dress.
Insider tip: You could continue wrapping the ends around and secure them with another magnet if you don’t want the ties loose.
Ways to Wear a Convertible Dress: Sleeve Action
With the statement, stretchy sleeves this infinity dress has, you can create a wide range of coverage/noncoverage for your arms.
5-Long Sleeves
For this example, I wrapped the long sleeves around each arm twice and then tucked it through the strap from the outside to the inside.
I allowed the ends of the sleeves to hang in the front to look like decoration.
6-One Shoulder
With any stretchy fabric, you can create a one-shoulder piece by pulling the sleeve inside the garment and adjusting it.
With this convertible dress, I kept the sleeve on the outside of the dress and then wrapped the sleeve material around and tied it to the other sleeve that was wrapped around the back of the dress.
Insider tip: Because this dress is a print material, it’s easier to hide any folds. But you can still do these tricks with a solid-color material.
7-Strapless
This time I pulled the bodice down tight around my chest and wrapped the sleeves around the girls with a knot in the front.
It’s seriously crazy how this dress can look so amazing and transformed in all of these ways.
