Fabulous Ways For How Influencers Affect Wardrobe Changes

In today’s fashion world, we’re inundated with endless ideas and options. With social media and the Internet at our fingertips, we can see how influencers affect wardrobe changes.

Quote of the day: “The people that have really made the contributions have been the thinkers and the doers.” Steve Jobs

With my 10 year blog anniversary, I asked those who get my email to give me examples of how this influencer (me) has affected their wardrobe changes, or any ideas since I also share nutrition, health, wellness and a variety of fun content in my emails.

That being said, you definitely ought to make sure you get my emails as your daily dose of positivity. Besides the free eBook, my email family gets personal tidbits of what’s going on in my life along with other happenings, sales, information, giveaways, extra photos, and interesting articles.

Not only did I want to share the amazing experiences of my readers, but I also wanted to ponder the idea of how influencers affect wardrobe changes…including me being influenced.

I’ve branched out many times about different aspects of life with mindset as well as social media for older women. I hope you read those articles too if you haven’t already.

The New Age of Influence: How Digital Style Shifts Our Wardrobe Choices

In the past, our wardrobe changes were influenced by magazine spreads, department store displays, or even the newswomen and actresses on TV.
Fast-forward to today, and we’re in the age of digital influence, where countless voices and styles are just a scroll away.

The advantage of seeing influencers online is that you have a much wider range of women that we can “relate” to. That’s exactly why I started my online site, so I could showcase “real” women with 3 different shapes, sizes, and ages.

Insider tip: While it is indeed easier to imagine clothing and style ideas on people who look like us, it is also limiting. PLEASE, please remember that there is no better alternative than to try things on before saying it won’t work for you.

It’s inspiring to think about how the choices of someone else—someone who may live thousands of miles away—can empower us to try something new. In fact, I’m a prime example of how influencers affect wardrobe changes. I never used to wear half of the things that I do now until I started seeing other women wearing them and looking fabulous.

Insider tip: If you ever have that doubt come into your head about “Am I too old to wear ____” please remember that clothing labels DO NOT have an age limitation on them. So the short answer is no!

Bringing Influencer Trends into Real Life: The Push to Update Our Wardrobes

On the other hand, there can be too much of a drive to buy new things all of the time as part of how influencers affect wardrobe changes. If you follow certain influencers, it may seem like they are constantly trying to sell, sell, sell.

There’s a balancing act to everything, right? It’s one of the reasons, I try to focus on teaching you ways to wear things in a variety of ways or with different color combinations. The goal is to use what you have and only add fabulous pieces occasionally. (Or at least find things inexpensively like thrifting or great sales).

Of course, this is only my opinion of how influencers affect wardrobe changes. Some women like to see all of the new items they can buy, buy, buy.

Insider tip: For example, we all know that there will be an upcoming fancy event in your future whether it’s a wedding, gala or something of the sort. You should already have a “party” dress in your closet so you aren’t stressed to buy one at the last minute that doesn’t fit well or costs too much.

Updating our wardrobes is easier with influencers there to update us on the new and trendy items. Yet I hope you remember that the goal isn’t to copy their style; it’s to let it inspire you to define your own style.

On the same note, I like to point out that our clothing choices are a tool to tell the world more about us. That’s why I believe it is important to update and evolve. If you are still dressing the way you did 20 years ago, or don’t believe that what you wear makes a difference, it can stunt human interactions.

How Influencers Affect Wardrobe Changes with Brands

One of the fascinating parts of influencer impact is how it shifts not just what we wear but also to find new and better brands.
In the past, we had to find our clothing in brick and mortar stores in our own area, but with online shopping, we can buy things from across the country.

I believe this has led us to find better options. Do you have finicky feet? Comfortable shoe companies are something I’ve shared for ages.
Maybe you are petite or plus size. Finding these sizes in the stores can be hard and frustrating, yet much easier to access online.

And it’s not just clothing but everything that we buy. We have the opportunity to learn about products that are better for our health and wellness or fix that annoyance in our lives with a quick purchase.

The Takeaway: Embrace Influence without Losing Individuality

At the heart of it, I hope you think of influencers as people to spark your creativity. The idea is that there are fresh ways to style old pieces, mix new colors, or try different silhouettes that you might not have thought to try on your own.

Insider tip: Beware of articles and influencers that say things like, “Wear this to look taller” or “What you shouldn’t wear over the age of ___”. These titles are clickbait and are only meant to get you to read something. They are not the truth about style and fashion.

This 10-year journey of learning how influencers affect wardrobe change for me has been humbling and eye-opening. Not only have I shared ideas-both successful ones and not so successful, but I have also learned from readers who have shared ideas with me.
And for that, I am extremely thankful.

Insider tip: In one of my emails, I confessed that the giveaway asking people to submit how I have influenced them was selfish. Selfish because I was fishing for compliments. Yet I can’t tell you how heartwarming it is to know I’ve inspired someone in some way. It’s really what keeps me blogging since I don’t make much Money doing this.

Thanks to Tresi who shared an article recently from Who What Wear I found this quip: “
“Being Brave and Going It Alone- There is already a personal style revolution of sorts happening online. This isn’t necessarily anti-trend, but it’s a move towards picking the parts that suit our lifestyles and personalities. “

Real Voices: Readers Share Their Own Influencer-Inspired Wardrobe Transformations

To close, I hope you enjoy the wonderful experiences from readers, who have been kind enough to share how Jodie’s Touch of Style has impacted their wardrobes. Here are a couple more that came without photos.

  • Kris: “I so enjoy your emails! I think I would have used the term eclectic to describe my style, but I loved the comment “unicorn style”. It sounds much more fun and colorful. I think I might just have to start using that term instead. I have always loved color and a touch of uniqueness, but I have expanded my wings since stumbling on your blog. I look at my closet and accessories differently than I used to.  Now I try to change up what I put together so I don’t do the same thing over again. A real chuckle, I’ve even put off doing laundry a few times to force myself to ” find” other outfits. Sometimes it’s like, a treasure hunt with my own stuff! Thanks so much for all you do! PS. I have borrowed some of your quotes for my quote board at work too!”
  • Stephany: “Something I bought at Goodwill that is also because of you is a peach-colored denim jacket. Before you, I would have thought that it was too bright to wear. You’ve opened up my horizons to the fun of wearing color.
Things that I have tried because of you. They are: Sheec socks, Halftees, and Daisy cottage cheese.
  • Kym: “Not sure how to decide which colors match with other pieces in your closet? Jodie reminds us to look at prints that we already own and copy some of the odd color combinations that worked so beautifully in that piece.”
“Another lesson we learned from Jodie is not to classify our clothes by seasons. We tell our customers if you have a sleeveless piece that you would like to wear in a different season or you love a sleeveless piece, but don’t like to show your bare arms – we layer!”
  • Rosemary: “I have taken your advice to add more color to my everyday outfits and to step it up by adding a necklace or bracelet. It does make a difference, especially if it gets noticed. Keep up the positivity!”
  • Valerie: “1-Turning clothes inside out and upside down,
    2-Transforming a scarf into a vest
3-How to step outside my comfort zone
4-Being the boss of my clothes” (there were 7 other ways, so brava!!)

Thank you to everyone who shared their photos and blurbs! It’s enough to keep a smile on my face for months and months.

Insider tip: Your goal should be to bring a personal twist to every outfit and embrace your unique style.
