A Day In The Life-Weekend/Retirement Version: Where Bloggers Live

Our wonderful leader of the Where Bloggers Live group came up with the idea to share what a day in life looks like for each of us on the weekend. I’ve shared an account of a day in my life when we go on a blogging “field trip” in the past, so I wanted to make this different.

Quote of the day: “On the ground, a rock is just a rock. But when moving at high speed through the atmosphere, a rock becomes a meteor-alive with fire and burning bright.
People are not so different. Without activity, we are lifeless and dull. When moving fast and taking action, we come alive.” James Clear.

I’m one of those people that love to laugh. In fact, did you know that my license plate reads “HAH HAH” mainly for the fact that my laugh is very uncommon? In high school, it was a topic of conversation many times, and I just decided to consider it a good thing instead of being embarrassed by it.

My reason for saying that is even though I love to laugh, I’m not very funny. I tend to be a more serious gal, yet I wanted to attempt to be humorous for this theme. Now, if you want to read someone who is truly funny, make sure to pop over to Em’s blog because she always cracks me up.

This won’t be on the same level as her post, but here’s my attempt.

How to Know It’s the Weekend When You’re Retired

1-How to know what day it is. Since every day is the weekend when you’re retired, you really need a clock like this to keep it all straight. Don’t laugh, we bought one like this for my stepmom, Nancy, one year.

2-You go to the grocery store and it’s crowded. Unless it’s the first Wednesday of the month because here in Sun City, that’s also the day that seniors get a 10% discount at the big box grocery stores.

3-Every where you go, there are open houses. And since you have all the time in the world, you stop at all of them and look around.

4-You are out on the highways, and there is much less traffic. Except if Taylor Swift has a concert that day. Did you know the AZ city that hosted her concert changed its name to Swift City for her concert?

5-You go out to the mailbox and it’s empty. That means it’s probably a Sunday.

6-All of the brunch and breakfast places are super crowded and you have to wait to get in. In which case you go back home and decide to go another day. Life is too short to wait in line.

But on a more serious note, every weekend, I will take the time to give myself a spa day. What does that mean? Keep reading.

Spa Day

Now I wouldn’t say that “spa day” is only saved for weekends, but it is the most popular time that I do take the time for these “extra” skin and hair care.
On spa day, I will put on my scrub exfoliant before the shower and then use my Thermocap after the shower.

My aesthetician has schooled me well about exfoliating. I didn’t use to do it much, but it makes sense that if you remove the dead skin cells often, your skin can uptake the moisturizers you put on, and therefore help counteract your dry skin better.

Every night after washing my face, I use a chemical exfoliant but once a week, I will use a scrub.

I have been using Paula’s Choice daily as my daily chemical exfoliant.

And the scrub shown on my face in the photo above is from my friend’s site, Scrub Studios. It is out of stock on her site right now, but before I used her scrub, I used GoPure’s microdermabrasion (it sounds scrubbier than it is).

Insider tip: Remember, exfoliants are almost as important as moisturizers. If you don’t remove the dead skin, moisturizers won’t work.

My hair is another part of my spa day. During the shower, I put on my Tayloani hair mask which is a thick conditioner. Then I use the shower cap so the water from the shower doesn’t rinse off the mask.
After I get out of the shower, I heat up this Thermocap in the microwave for a minute and put it on for 10 minutes.

Insider tip: I bought the Tayloani system and once I started seeing results, then I started working with them. That means I am an ambassador now and can offer you a discount. Use code JODIEF25. If you are struggling with thin hair, I think the most beneficial item is the Thermocap and you can order that separately. But the kit is not overly expensive since my original mask container is still half full and I’ve been using it for over 7 months now.
