The importance of a strong foundation was once again confirmed when I stepped out of our bathroom and onto the carpet. It was sopping wet. Inwardly I questioned, Is there a water pipe broken? We were on a concrete slab foundation and that would be terrible news. Almost anything could be an issue as our home was built decades ago. Older homes have older pipes and plumbing.
However, I didn’t think there were any water pipes anywhere close to the foundation. We had previously remodeled our bathroom ten years ago and completely redid the plumbing. I had drawn up the plans. I knew there were no pipes under the slab. After a bit of exploration, I realized the leak was coming from the shower, which was very close to the carpet area. But the shower was supposed to be completely waterproofed. What went wrong? We soon found out it was the lack of a strong foundation. In this article, we’ll explore what it means to have a strong foundation and the essential components that fortify it.
