Hi, I’m Laurie James…a mother, divorcée, recovering caregiver turned author, somatic relationship coach, and podcaster. My podcast, Confessions of a Freebird, was inspired by my youngest of four children leaving the nest and is the sequel to my book, Sandwiched: A Memoir of Holding On and Letting Go.
My memoir is about my journey from loneliness to finding belonging during a time when I was raising four teenage daughters, my mother had a heart attack and I became her caregiver, all while my Marriage began to crumble underneath me.
I created Confessions of a Freebird as a heartfelt space for women navigating major life transitions—Divorce, empty nesting, loss, Dating again, or simply asking, “Is this all there is?”
Each week, I share raw reflections from my own journey, somatic Coaching tools, and unfiltered conversations with Experts on everything from sex, Grief, Trauma, and finances to reinvention, Caregiving, and starting over on your midlife journey.
We explore what it means to come home to yourself through somatic practices—and how to design a life that feels aligned with who you are now, not who you were 20 years ago or who someone or society has told you to be.
I became a Somatic Practitioner and blend it with my Coaching. This combination has helped me and my clients move from living in a state of survival to state of safety and now I live a life that’s in align with my soul’s purpose. I help my clients who are healing so they can develop a better relationship with their bodies and nervous system. It’s one of the best forms of self-care. This allows my clients to find the inner freedom to experience more happiness, joy, and reinvent themselves in midlife through nervous system regulation.
When I’m not coaching clients or podcasting, I can be found nurturing my free spirit by walking my adopted husky Lu, skiing, sailing, hiking, playing pickle ball, spending time with my Family, four adult daughters, close friends or planning my next adventure.
