How Old Are You, Really? 🤔

Did you know we actually have four ages?

  1. Chronological age (the date on your birth certificate)
  2. Psychological age (how old you feel)
  3. Functional age (what you’re capable of doing)
  4. Biological age (the age of your cells)

In a way, age is as much in the mind as it is in the body. Let me explain.

Chronological Age: Just a Number

Your chronological age is, frankly, administrative. It’s a fact, but it doesn’t define you. Take the incredible power couple I met last week:

  • He’s a former Minister, still touring the world giving lectures at the young age of 87.
  • She, a Minister of State, chairs the North Sea consultation three days a week at 82.

Their chronological age? Just a detail. Their energy, curiosity, and drive? Timeless.

Psychological Age: It’s All About Mindset

How old do you feel? This is where your psychological age comes in. Are you looking forward or back? Do you wake up with hope and excitement for the future, or are you just waiting around for the end?

Your mindset shapes your reality. If you believe you’re “too old” for something, you probably are. But if you choose to see life as an endless adventure, you’ll find that age becomes irrelevant.

Functional Age: Breaking Self-Imposed Limits

What are you capable of doing? This is your functional age, and it’s often limited not by your body, but by your mind.

I used to tell myself I shouldn’t lift weights anymore. Until I did.
I convinced myself I shouldn’t jog anymore. Until I did.

We’re incredibly skilled at limiting ourselves, often out of an overprotective ego wired to keep us “safe.” But what if “safe” is just another word for “stagnant”?

Biological Age: Where It Gets Yummy

This is where the magic happens. Your biological age – the age of your cells – is deeply influenced by your Lifestyle. What you eat, how you move, the quality of your Sleep, and even the water you drink all play a role.

The good news? You have more control over this than you might think. It’s not about “anti-ageing” (a term I’m not fond of) but about pro-living. It’s about creating a life where your cells thrive, so you can thrive.

The Big Question

We’re living longer than ever before. But are we living better? Shouldn’t we do everything in our power to ensure those extra years are filled with joy, vitality, and purpose?

This is just the beginning of the conversation. Ageing isn’t something to fear or fight – it’s an opportunity to redefine what’s possible.

Food for thought… to be continued.
