Enormous Variety For Styling Dresses And Sneakers-Mini, Midi, & Maxi

The idea that dresses can be worn casually is a great way to wear the clothes you have in your closet. Styling dresses and sneakers is one of the easiest ways to transform your dresses into an everyday outfit.

Quote of the day: “Don’t waste your purpose worrying about your body. It’s your house. It’s where you live. There’s no point in judging it.” Emma Thompson

With the idea of wearing dresses and sneakers together, I wanted to showcase 3 lengths of dresses: mini (above the knee), midi (calf length), and maxi (ankle length).

Do some sneakers look better with dresses than others? I’ll give my two cents after each outfit.

We’ve worn dresses of all lengths in the past, and many times with sneakers.

Sequin Dress With Sleeveless Denim Shirt

Mini Dresses and Sneakers

I was on a mission to transform this sequin dress into one I could wear to a local history talk. Sequins are usually styled for fancy occasions, but it’s a shame for them to take up precious Real Estate in your closet if they only get worn once a year (if that).

So the idea of dresses and sneakers was perfect for this.

On top of wearing sneakers with the sequin dress, I also wore a sleeveless denim shirt with it to cover up some of the bling. (It was WAY too hot for a denim jacket).

Insider tip: I created a shorter top by holding the front panels of my shirt together with a clear elastic and then adding this decorative hair barrette.

My husband and I have 5 pairs of these Cariuma sneakers between us because once you buy a pair, they will send you surveys and discounts that make it hard to resist another pair. In fact, I have another pair coming in October when a new design is released.

If you don’t know about this brand, they are eco-conscious and very sustainable. You notice it right away when you open the shipping box because it’s also the shoe box.
The drawback is they aren’t size-inclusive if you need wider shoes.

Insider tip: I have found that they run snug for my preference, so I size up a half size. I also wear Sheec no-show socks with them instead of bare feet.

Mini dresses and sneakers:

Because you are showing more leg with a shorter dress, I believe that all sneakers look good.
Clunky sneakers or even high-top sneakers will take up more real Estate on the bottom half of your leg and ground the look.
Or you can keep it more feminine with a lower cut and lower profile sneakers.

Pink Ruffle Dress With Turquoise Ring

Midi Dresses and Sneakers

Hot days call for flowy, linen dresses. I created content for this Masai Copenhagen brand with this dress back in the spring, and it’s a perfect example of how a dress can be made casual with sneakers.

I like how the side slit allows a flash of leg yet overall, the look is very modest.

Midi dresses and sneakers:

Sometimes I think this length of dress is what many women struggle with to find the “right” footwear.
If that is the case for you, I will suggest that you focus on the top half of the outfit instead. Too many times we get obsessed about a detail and it’s something that nobody else notices.

What I mean to say is all sneakers can look good with midi dresses.

Thrifted Floral Dress On Older Woman

Charlotte: Maxi Dresses and Sneakers

A maxi dress can be ideal for the hot, summer days. You can be covered for modesty yet you can have the airflow that you need.
The right maxi dress can be like wearing a nightgown.

My mom paired her “star” sneakers with this floral maxi dress.
I twisted her arm to get these sneakers when we found them at Macy’s for a steal. I bought the same pair also because they are so cute.

Maxi dresses and sneakers:

This is when you need to think about if you want to show some skin or not. Wearing a lower-cut sneaker will allow some skin to show while you’re wearing a maxi dress.
But if you want to be more covered, this is the perfect time to pull out the high tops or chunky sneakers.

If your sneakers don’t seem right with your dresses, the best advice is to find a pair of shoes you like wearing with your dresses and see if you can replicate the same profile with a pair of sneakers. Most of the time it’s about how much leg is showing and the style of the sneakers.

Insider tip: The Orthofeet “hands-free” sneakers are an incredible option if you have issues bending or tying your shoes. I talked about them recently.
