1. SE4: EP 12 How to Better Educate Women About Menopause And Life Post Menopause Clarissa Kristjansson 40:19

This we are diving into how we better educate women about Menopause. I am joined by Professor Joyce Harper of University College London in the Institute for Women’s Health where she is Head of the Reproductive Science and Society Group.

Joyce is a passionate educator and researcher on women’s health from puberty to Menopause and author of Your Fertile Years,

Her research has shown that women do not understand Menopause and go into it blindly. We have to improve this. In our conversation, we talk about important points including:

  • Why Menopause is not a deficiency or a syndrome – it is not a disease
  • Why Menopause should be on the curriculum of every medical school
  • That is important to ensure everyone, men and women get educated on the symptoms of perimenopause.
  • Why we need more research into Menopause and to ensure that the learnings are disseminated in ways that lay people can understand.
  • Why hormone tests are meaningless and why we should be observing symptoms instead.
  • GP’s are the frontline but where possible people should be referred to a Menopause expert if necessary for HRT
  • It is critical we balance the negative narrative by encouraging more conversation on the positives of life post Menopause

Clarissa Kristjansson Independant Podcaster

At 62 Clarissa Kristjansson knows that menopause can be positive, transformational and an upgrade in our creativity. Clarissa is an internationally recognized menopause educator, third-age women's health coach, and certified mindfulness and medical qi gong practitioner.

A neuroscientist and former corporate high-flyer it was her own perimenopause experience that set her on a different path to empower women.
