It was a time like no other in recent memory. By the time it ended hundreds of thousands of college students were coming to Fort Lauderdale to spend their spring Break in the surf and the sun and living life to its fullest. 

How did the annual ritual of Spring Break begin, what catapulted it and Fort Lauderdale into the national spotlight and what ended it?
