At nearly 63, I don’t think I’ve peaked yet.
A lot of the things that have shaped my life happened later than I once might have expected.
I published my first book at 30, became a mom at 37 and again at 40, met the Love of my life at 46, ran my first half marathon at 48, and remarried at 50.
At 50, I also started a new career as a content creator, doing work that didn’t even exist when I was younger. At 54, I published my 19th book.
At 55 and 57, respectively, I became a Yoga teacher and learned a freestanding handstand.
Then, after spending two years recovering from a torn rotator cuff, I decided at 60 that I wanted to learn how to do a pull-up.
At 59, I started improv classes, then took up acting classes, and now I’m learning musical improv.
At 62, I can do five strict pull-ups, and I’m writing my 20th book.
At 40, I had no idea what my life would look like at 50. At 50, I had no idea what I’d be doing in my 60s. So I’m not going to assume I already know what my 70s will bring.
I have no idea what the next chapter looks like.
But if my life has taught me anything, it’s that some of the best things that ever happened to me weren’t even on my radar a decade earlier.
Do you feel like you’ve peaked? I really hope not, but if you do, maybe write down some things you’d love to do but that, up until now, you’ve felt you were too old to do!
