Amanda Harris: Breath, Body, and Belief

  1. Amanda Harris: Breath, Body, and Belief Phillip Bogolub 57:56

Our bodies often bear the brunt of our inactive lifestyles, leading to pain and discomfort that can hinder our daily activities. Amanda Harris’s company, Re-Kinect, is tackling this crucial issue in a unique way—through the power of gentle movement and exercise. Harris brings over three decades of experience in post-rehabilitation and medical exercise to the table, offering a beacon of hope for those seeking to restore healthy movement for life.

About Amanda Harris:

Amanda Harris specializes in working with people who have chronic lower back pain for any number of reasons, including disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and various spinal surgeries.  Amanda has over 30 years of experience in post-rehabilitative and medical exercise and is passionate about helping people return to the activities they enjoy after injury or surgery.

Amanda’s credentials include a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Virginia and a certification as a Medical Exercise Specialist from the Medical Exercise Training Institute.

Topics for today’s show:

  • How we can retrain our bodies to move in a healthy, pain-free way
  • The benefits of learning proper body mechanics, such as Pilates-informed bending techniques.
  • Overcoming the mental and physical hurdles associated with past traumas, like bike riding fears.
  • Exploring the significance of back pain and its underlying causes to facilitate easier movement.
  • Breaking societal taboos: discussing the importance of posture and technique even while using the toilet.
  • Emphasizing the critical role of proper breathing as a foundation of the exercise method.

Key Takeaways:

  • Bringing Exercise Physiology into the Home

Phillip joins the discussion with his innovative approach to making exercise physiology accessible. He had to get creative when he realized that the conventional method required expensive equipment. His solution was to bring this practice into the home through an online course, democratizing the way we approach movement and pain relief.

  • Finding Comfort in Movement with AJANOI

AJANOI’s perspective on universal mind and spiritual influences provides a different angle on dealing with back pain. His experience highlights the importance of being mindful of our movements and the physical comfort that can be achieved through simple adjustments and an understanding of our bodies.

  • Easy Movements for Pain Management

What does it actually mean to engage in “easy movements”? This episode breaks down the concept and encourages listeners to reframe their experiences with back pain. By understanding and addressing the fear and stress that amplify discomfort, we can learn to move better in the stiff parts of our body and protect the more vulnerable places.

“People don’t want to admit they’re in pain… whether it’s mental or physical, they don’t want to admit it because they think it’s vulnerability. I don’t mind certain vulnerabilities because you’re opening up things to be more healthy for yourself.” -Amanda Harris

Amanda offers a free, live online workshop, Unlocking Back Pain With Movement, several times per year as a prelude to my online course, Lower Back Mastery. Tune in to learn more.

Phillip Bogolub Mentor of the Mind

Hello, my name is Phillip Bogolub. I have created a podcast show called, "Conscious Communication". The show was created from several experiences in my life but one central experience. I was an engineer traveling around the world supporting a medical device for over 25 years. During my travels I learned more about myself then I realized. Within this context I have pivoted in becoming and creating a philosophy called, "AJANOI" and out of that philosophy my "Conscious Communication" Podcast Show was born! I know you are asking, how do you say the word, "AJANOI" and what the heck does it mean? On that note, check out my podcast show, and I believe you will find the answers you seek. Empowering others empowers ourselves, that is what life is all about!
