The Creativity of Aging

Today we want to flip the usual narrative about growing older. Too often, Aging is framed as a season of loss or decline. But what if it’s also a time of flowering? A season when creativity—through art, music, writing, Gardening, or even playful living—can come alive in ways we never expected?

Creativity isn’t reserved for the young or for professional artists. It’s a spiritual force that flows through all of us, often becoming more accessible later in life. Think of Grandma Moses, who didn’t begin painting seriously until her seventies, or the poet Mary Oliver, whose later works radiated both wonder and Wisdom. These examples remind us: creativity has no expiration date.

In this episode, we’ll explore how creativity can shift our focus from discontent to contentment, from worry to joy. We’ll talk about the freedom aging can bring—the release from striving or perfectionism—and how that freedom can open the door to authentic self-expression. Whether it’s drumming, quilting, singing in the kitchen, or planting a garden, creative acts connect us to the present moment and to the deeper spiritual energy that animates life itself.
