The Pius MacIsaac Memorial Music Awards continue to honour the spirit and Legacy of one of Cape Breton’s cherished musical figures. This year, two outstanding young musicians have been named the 2025 recipients of the annual $500 bursaries:

  • Maeve Ryan of Inverness Academy in Inverness
  • Nina Tubman of Dalbrae Academy in Mabou

Presented in memory of Pius MacIsaac—a talented musician, generous community supporter, and champion of music as a way of life—these awards recognize students who exemplify a deep passion for music and who are committed to incorporating it into both their Personal Development and community involvement.

The awards were presented with Love and pride by Pius’ sisters, Sadie Maloney and Catherine MacIsaac, alongside long-time friend and fellow music advocate, Michelle Greenwell. Their shared stories and warm presence highlighted not only the significance of the bursary, but also the enduring impact that Pius had on those around him.

Four Woman Standing, One Woman Receiving An Award

“These bursaries are about more than just financial support,” noted Michelle Greenwell. “They are a way to carry forward Pius’ belief that music should be woven into the fabric of our lives—through joy, learning, and community connection.”

We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Maeve and Nina and look forward to witnessing the unique musical paths they will follow. May music continue to guide and inspire them as it did for Pius MacIsaac, whose legacy lives on through the notes, songs, and dreams of each new recipient.

You can learn more about the award recipients on the special page devoted to this award.

Donations to add to the bursary fund are accepted by etransfer to [email protected], and stay tuned for our annual fundraiser at the Glenora Inn and Distillery at the end of the musical season in October. We appreciate the continued support of Pius’ fellow musicians, as well as community members who help his legacy to grow.
