Furry Clothing: How To Wear Texture With Confidence

When it comes to fashion, texture is just as important as color and pattern. And what better way to add some tactile interest to your outfit than with furry clothing?
So I brought this idea to the Ageless Style group. Not only can you get inspiration from the 4 of us, but you can see more ideas with their posts.

Quote of the day: “To create, one must first question everything. Never adopt someone else’s condition without putting it to the test of your own reasoning and imagination.” Eileen Gray

Whether it’s faux fur, calf hair, or a fluffy accent piece, a little bit of plush texture can elevate your look instantly.

As someone who loves furry clothing, I was excited that the 4 of us could each showcase some type/form of this idea. Seeing so many options and outfits can give you loads of inspiration.

I hope no one thinks it’s not age or size appropriate because clothing and style should be fun and unique, just like our personalities.

As much as I love my site, Jodie’s Touch of Style, I really enjoy putting together my daily emails. I consider my emails an extension of my blog that is chocked full of positive inspiration that one friend calls a “Variety Show.”
I include articles, videos, and posts that strike my fancy and since I have no siblings to share with, I share with you.

1. Suzann- The Furry Vest

A furry vest is a great way to add a statement piece to your wardrobe without overwhelming your frame. It’s versatile enough to be dressed up or down, and it pairs beautifully with everything from jeans to dresses.

Suzann styled her vest over a floral blouse, proving that mixing feminine prints with bold textures creates a balanced and interesting outfit.
The asymmetrical hem of the skirt adds even more movement and flair. A pair of pink suede booties and a textured handbag add even more texture to the look.

Details:
-I love that these flexible snake necklaces are making a comeback. You can find them on Amazon in all different metals.
-Suzann loves thrifting as much as I do and you’ll notice that almost everything is preloved.
-I love how Suzann’s outfit is basically monochromatic so the vest is the focal point.

Pro Tip: Furry vests really do help add warmth to your outfit. That’s how you can combine bare legs with the item and not be too hot or cold.

2. Charlotte-The Furry Jacket

Nothing says fun and interesting like a plush, teddy bear jacket. No matter what color you choose, this outerwear option instantly upgrades any outfit.

My mom layered her pink furry clothing jacket over a color-blocked top and straight-leg pants, creating a relaxed aesthetic.
She matched the shoes to the jacket but added a third color with her blue purse.

Details:
-My mom made these pants years ago and they are reversible. Here is the floral pattern on the other side.
-Pearls are always a good option no matter what the day.
-These shoes don’t have the best support, so my mom uses the removable arch support insoles.

Pro Tip: If you’re hesitant about wearing a full furry coat, try one in a shorter length or a neutral shade to make it more versatile.

3. Jodie- The Furry Scarf (as a Top)

Instead of wearing a furry scarf the traditional way, I took it up a notch by styling it as a top. The result? A look that’s equal parts high-fashion and fun.
I decided to be more modest by layering it over a sheer top with the same colorway, but it does cover all of the essentials so it could be worn alone.

As I’ve styled it, the furry scarf acts almost like a statement vest, adding texture and interest while still feeling light.
I wore it with my silky track pants, colorful heels, and an orange handbag to prove that you can play with fashion and make it your own.

Details:
-You’ve seen this scarf in the past worn the way it was made to be worn.
-One of my favorite ways to wear a brooch is at the waistband so it looks like a belt.
These boots are under $35 only because they are a discontinued style. Use code COMFY10 for an additional discount.

Pro Tip: If you love the look of furry clothing but don’t want the bulk of a jacket or vest, experiment with scarves, wraps, or even a furry handbag to add texture in a subtle way.

4. Lesley- The Calf Hair Accessories

If you shy away from the furry clothing we’ve shown above, then calf hair could appeal to you as a more subtle version.

Lesley has a large variety of calf hair items as you can see with her shoes, purse, and accessories. It’s an easy way to add texture without feeling like you’re overwhelming the outfit.

The black top and neutral skirt are one piece. It’s a dress. Lesley layered a bright pink top over it and used a belt to keep it all in place.

Details:
-Lesley never used to be a fan of leopard print, so let’s applaud her willingness to evolve and grow.
-Notice that the leopard prints aren’t all the same, but they still work well together.
-A shacket can be a fabulous layering item.

Pro tip: EVERYONE can wear a belt no matter your body shape. Lesley will tell you that she has a zucchini body shape thus I hope this inspired you to try wearing belts.

Final Thoughts: Why You Should Try Furry Clothing

The beauty of furry clothing is that it adds dimension, warmth, and a touch of fun to any outfit.

Whether you go big with a statement jacket, keep it subtle with calf hair accessories, or experiment with creative layering like a furry scarf-turned-top, there’s a way for everyone to wear this trend.

As a retired dentist, Jodie takes her love of clothing and shopping and has come to find her superpowers in styling the same item in many ways. She is also a huge advocate for embracing our age and bodies. Getting old is a wonderful thing and learning to love ourselves while it happens is very freeing.
