Fashionable Advice To Transition A Summer Outfit To Fall

I’m a sucker for seeing a clothing item worn in many ways. That’s why I had the three of us showcase this transition from a summer outfit to fall with a piece that’s been worn before on the blog in the summer.

Quote of the day: “If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate.” Thomas J. Watson

While I love shopping as much as the next girl, one of the problems with categorizing clothing for a certain season, is you tend to only wear it for that season.

Most clothing should be seasonless with the exception of heavy material that would overheat you in the summer.
That means all summer clothing should be perfect for the idea of transitioning a summer outfit to fall by adding layers.

It’s a shame to put away all of our summer things, and you might be surprised at how well your summer items transition to a different season.

Insider tip: Ignore the material. So what if the skirt or top is lightweight? That’s when layering is perfect. For instance, my mom was happily surprised at how this “summer skirt” worked so well with boots and a sweater.

This is not the first time we’ve explored this concept.

Charlotte: Transform a Tunic with Layers

Want to hear something funny? I was playing with AI and asked it to describe my mom’s fall outfit.

It said: “The photo features an older woman exuding confidence in a bold, artistic outfit.”

To me, that means this outfit is a success. Don’t we all want to exude confidence??

A sheer tunic is something you think about more in the warmer months, sure. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be a wonderful way to add sass to a turtleneck and pair of skinny jeans.

My favorite part about the outfit is the glitter sneakers. If you don’t have a pair, I think you need some.

Lesley: Red Dress Layered

Lesley chose this red dress from a summer article where we showcased leopard worn during the warm weather.

She considered it an easy transition to layer the dress by thinking of it as a tunic and popping it over a top and leggings.

Insider tip: Two of my favorite words when trying to increase the versatility of your closet.
Over and Under. Layering happens both ways, and most dresses can do this.

Pants: Sauve- Steinmart~~ Dress: Jostar-Shers~~ Top: H&M-thrifted ~~ Shoes: Ros (formerly Walking Cradeles) ~~ Jacket: Susan Graber-thrifted~~ Purse: no label-Macys

Lesley also brought a black and white striped jacket in case the day was very cool. The print is a bold pattern that gives personality to the outfit even if it’s just hung over her shoulders.

And what I really love is how Lesley embraces a belt with this look. She describes her body as a zucchini shape which goes to show that a belt works on more than just hourglass-shaped women.

Jodie: Summer Dress to Fall

Of course, everyone’s definition of fall is different. If I were still living in Denver, I might need tights or tall boots to keep me warm.
But for this day we traveled up to northern Arizona where it was cool enough to prove that we could transition from a summer outfit to fall.

I transformed this strappy teal linen dress for a cooler day with a wide belt, plaid jacket, and dark sneakers.

Teal Dress With Plaid Jacket And Black Sneakers
Dress: Banana Republic~~ Jacket: Able “Gianna Plaid Jacket ” c/o~~ Shoes: Jambu c/o ~~ HeadScarf: Gibby’s Scarf~~ Belt: thrifted~~ Purse: no label

The company, Able, sent me this jacket which is currently under $100 with the code “Friends“. It’s cropped which is perfect for the change of silhouette we are seeing, and it’s also a boxy fit.
I thought it was a fabulous way to transition this summer dress to fall.

Darker shoes also seem like an easy way to transition a summer outfit to be more fall-ish. This pair of Jambu sneakers is one of my favorites because of the padding around the heel and the zipper, making it easy to get them on and off.
Even though I’m not working with Jambu lately, I still love that they prioritize comfort in their footwear.
These sneakers aren’t available this season, but this pair is similar.

I did add some brightness with my headscarf, purse, and earrings. In my way of thinking, bright pink goes with almost everything.
