Autumn is a Kaleidoscope of Colours
“Anyone who thinks fallen leaves are dead has never watched them dancing on a windy day.”
Shira Tamir
Today, the summer is ending with the arrival of the autumn equinox (Latin for “equal night”). That event officially marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The nights are going to be longer than the day.
With the elimination of haze that comes up from the warm earth all summer long, in September, even the sky looks a different, more vibrant blue. The ritual of replacing the lighter clothes with warmer and cozier ones in your wardrobes and drawers gets scheduled on one of the weekend days. Seeing a piece of clothing that you forgot about from last winter enlightens your day, making you feel like you have just bought it. It is brand new.
Although the arrival of autumn creates a slight feeling of melancholy within us, in reality, it is harvest time and deserves a celebration. These are productive and active times that we collect the awards of feverish works we have accomplished during spring and summer. Most people feel down and depressed because the season turns into autumn with the promise of turning into winter soon enough. But every season has its pluses and minuses. They are all beautiful and deserve appreciation.
Instead of complaining about it, for once, let us embrace the autumn. Go for a walk in nature, examine the colours and shapes, appreciate the fresh air, end of summer holidays, beginning of a busier season which comes with its special surprises, social gatherings and connections.
Remember: every day is a gift.
