7 Types of Rest

I just heard there are 7 types of rest.

 SEVEN

Did you have any idea that there are so many?

And one of the first facts is that Sleep and rest are not the same. Did you catch that? Sleep and rest are not the same. I am a “burn the candle at both ends” kind of gal, so that struck me. I crash when I go to sleep. And I will sometimes wake up still tired. So, let’s learn from this truth and let’s explore all the ways we can find rest.

We are a high demand society. Right? And there are a ton of responsibilities on us! And because of this, we are also a highly burnedout society currently and many of us are chronically tired and sluggish. And I, for one, have realized that I need to better understand rest.

we are also a highly burnedout society currently and many of us are chronically tired and sluggish.

We need rest in all 7 areas:

Doesn’t that sound amazing? SEVEN types of rest.

You mean there’s something beyond CRASH?

Ha!

Which ones do you know of?

Here they are:

PHYSICAL REST: this is the one that most of us know of and it is necessary to restore and replenish ourselves and can often be found in: Meditation, Yoga, walks in nature, listening to music, jacuzzi. These are things that help improve circulation and flexibility.

MENTAL REST: A great way to do this is giving yourself 5-10 minute breaks away from devices, writing, talking, reading and even thinking. Some calming suggestions are: watch fish, feel the wind, take a peek at the sun, lay down and feel the grass beneath you. Take a few minutes to let yourself Reboot! You will probably will find you’d like to stay in this mode for the full 10 minutes.

SENSORY REST: close your eyes and go within. Let your eyes and ears and fingers have a break from all the focusing they have to do. We don’t think of this one much, but our fingers are often typing away, writing away, or scrolling away, versus just being at a place of rest.

Let your eyes and ears and fingers have a break from all the focusing they have to do.

CREATIVE REST: take a break from work/job/responsibilities to reacquaint yourself with awe, wonder, beauty, magic. Let yourself find moments of being inspired. Maybe it’s drawing, literature, painting, music, dance either creating your own or delighting in another’s.

EMOTIONAL REST: this is especially important for empaths. Give yourself pockets of time to just go within. Let the focus be on your breathing, your center, your heart versus everyone around you. I know this is something I must do to stay balanced.

FINANCIAL REST: Give yourself a no spending day. Truly, give yourself a break from focusing on Money. Make things, share things. Let the pennies sit and feel the difference in how it feels to not spend anything for a while, especially if finances are tight.

SPIRITUAL REST: Give yourself time to rest into Spirit so you can be replenished in prayer, devotion, reading, worship, the beauty of life and why you are here.

These are thew 7 types of rest. Sleep is amazing. And don’t these others ways of expanding our rest sound great too?

Have you tried a weighted blanket? I Love mine. It is especially helpful if you are not in a relationship and in the need of physical contact. It can feel like a hug or a cuddle.

Which of these 7 do you regularly give yourself?

Have you ever thought of financial rest? That was a new concept for me and it is so freeing to give yourself that freedom for a day.

Which will you add for yourself? Which will you give yourself today?

Let’s learn to rest in all the seven ways to be fulfilled.
